What are some of your favorite ways to open the closed guard... Post instructional vids or just describe your favorite method.

I like the dead lift and shake method... I also have some success with putting my knee on one side of the butt, killing the hips with my forearm and elbow (with my palm face down on the chest), and then twisting my hips to open the guard...

Post your favorite techniques!

I definitely prefer to stand. I usually use this setup below to get up:

I use a few variations for prying the legs. Mostly I like to bend at the torso and stiff arm the knee to push it down. Sometimes I'll reach back and open it up at the ankles. Sometimes I'll keep the lapel grip and pull my opponent up so that's he's parallel to the floor and do two knees in the butt. Just depends on the situation.

EDIT
A shorter vid of pretty much the same thing:

Awesome, thanks man... C'mon guys lets see some vids or here about some techniques... I know I'm not the only one getting stuck in closed guard!

I like to sit my weight back, Put my elbows on the opponents knees and then clasp my hands together in a praying motion. Then you move your hands down towards your stomach which automatically forces your elbows further apart, breaking their closed guard.

Also as you may have already mentioned the knee in the but is another basic well proven method.

Thanks trumpetdan! Best standing guard break video i've seen to date!

Hell yea, definitely stand up. If you're not used to it, you may get swept a lot. But after a short time you'll work out the kinks.

What could go wrong?
