Opinion OpEd-Elites realizing that opening up the West to China did not bring about political liberalization

Crazy it took this long to realize doing business with China was a horrible idea.

It's been known for years China is using slave labor to make cheap goods for many big businesses.
People dont care about that. People care about China cause its a threat. If you were to ban all trades to places with child labour and other human rights violations, what would you eat, wear, play and so on. Most of it is dirty but people care cause China poses a threat.

It's pretty obvious how bad it would be for America if we stopped "cold turkey" trading with China. However, isn't it true that China can't produce enough food to feed it's own population? We would be screwed for a long while with higher prices of mostly non essential goods, while the Chinese starve.

Yes, the ChiComs killed the 'capitalis and trade bring democracy' theory we all grew up with
And the same people are telling us that engaging with Saudi Arabia will make things better, but these States will never become democratic in the forseable future no matter how much the West welcomes them. Funny how the folks carrying water for Saudi Arabia never say we should open up and advance the economy of Iran because that will liberalize them.

They would suffer far more than us. If the US really wanted to decouple, they would form a coalition and bring Australia in too. Australia provides the bulk of China's iron ore.

And gave China "Most Favored Nation" trading status.
And allowed China to enter the World Trade Organization.

The CCP played our establishment epically.

No

Our politicians played us

China was always China
