Opinion Onion update - Fox news debuts channel covering AOC

Basically what CNN has been doing with Trump 24/7 for the last 2 years. That would have a much better joke. I guess the folks at the onion are lefties, that would explain why they've been irrelevant for years, they're not taking humoristic advantage of the heaps and heaps of insanity coming from the left.
 
 
There was a video yesterday of another freshman congresswoman walking with AOC and the cameras are all over her and the Congresswoman says something to the effect like “I can’t believe this is your life now.” It’s truly remarkable that she lives rent free in her opponents head.

the same way Mr. Sanders got a vote. the same way Mr. Trump got a vote.

a different look, along with an appeal to a specific tranche of the electorate via click worthy policy proposals.

i'm not commenting on the efficacy of those proposals or making any judgement on them, but it is what it is.

All this effort being put into defending AOC is radical leftists trying to create a narrative about her so moderate leftists and uninformed liberals will associate her with persecution and be mentally conditioned to ignore her gaffes and focus instead on the big, mean right wing people making fun of her.

I don't know that it would have been funnier. Trump has shown himself to be a terrible person long before ever running for president and his every waking moment is a gaffe. Right wing people continually get triggered about everything, even the new Sabrina show on Netflix which I wouldn't have known about if not for right wing people here crying because shockingly it doesn't appeal to thirty something white dudes and the fucking sky is falling. Point being, take a look at your side of the aisle before throwing shade.

That first part is true though. Like many mainstream outlets they've made tons of money off him and they gave him lots of free press in 2016, too. There's plenty of people on the left that criticize the MSM, even the supposedly liberal side of it. Michelle Wolfe - not exactly right wing - roasted liberal media for this at the correspondents dinner.

It's funny that I see a lot of the more conservative posters say that it's an echo chamber on the left when people on the left in the war room disagree with each other quite a bit. But then I could just be seeing it that way because of my perspective while missing right wing posters doing the same. We all have our bubbles to an extent but even the women on the view have criticized Ocasio-Cortez. Her and people like her have to deal with bullshit on both sides.

If you haven't noticed, there's a BIG difference between establishment liberals (like Third Way Democrats) and those on the left and they're going to war right now. Her victory was a blow to the establishment and so far she's shown to be pretty uncompromising and has been doing exactly what her base wanted her to. She's shaking things up and fighting for the policy they wanted.

All of the other news organizations cover her similarly. After she revealed she struggles with basic math and reading inflow/outflow budgets, they realized, "Uh oh, maybe this wasn't a good idea", and now they want to backpedal. They tried covering her more critically, less fawning, only after this, and after she began to drive a wedge in the party by protesting Pelosi on her first day. Now they're trying to shame FOX for letting that star shine.

I'd be intrigued to see the follow-up piece of satire about this miscalculated gaffe.

Nevertheless, long term, FOX is making the bigger mistake. They're allowing socialism to become a brand. They're making it into an everyday dinner table conversation. They are framing the debate with socialism given equal consideration. It used to be relegated to the fringes of radical wombats. Now the youth are growing up and seeing this young woman as their avatar, and viewing the problems their generation will face through the prism of this choice: capitalism or socialism.

It's a fucking disaster. It's a far greater blunder. Fox knows not what they do.

Palin then attempted to sing a few bars of "Rocky Mountain High" but was clearly confusing the song with "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus.

At one point, Trump attempted to bet $5.7 billion on a Daily Double question in order to make enough money to fund his wall but was informed by Trebek that since his current total was only $-9,600, he wouldn't be able to wager that much.

These hijinks continued for the length of the episode before all three were disqualified ahead of Final Jeopardy for being tens of thousands of dollars in the red.

After the episode aired, Republicans quickly praised Trump's brilliant strategy, while Democrats blamed Ocasio-Cortez's poor performance on systemic misogyny. Sarah Palin was offered a reality show covering her experiences.
