That's right, a minimum weigh in. You have 2 months to prepare, then whatever you weigh in at determines your weight class for the next some number of years.
Well, your weight class is determined by your minimum weight. Even though fighters will cut a ridiculous amount of weight, it is fair since so will all fighters. Furthermore, they save themselves the physical damage of repeated weight cutting, and the public the disappointment cancelled fights due to weight misses. Furthermore, fighters will put on more exciting performances because no weight cuts before fights.
Yes, but so can Ngannou. The names of the weight classes would no longer have any meaning relative what they actually fight at, they would simply mean what their minimum weight is. So for example, perhaps Minimum Weight Class 180 would actually be the new heavyweight, if you insist on giving it a name that has something to do with what they actually fight at.
I have a much better solution that makes more sense. 3 weight checks leading to the fight and 3 random checks. If you are outside the weight class it is a 10% fine each time, no exceptions. If the weight check shows up after a big meal and you are over the class you agreed to fight in, it is a fine. Weight classes shift: Fly W 145 and less BW 146-155 FW 156-165 LW 166-175 SLW 176-185 WW 186-195 MW 196-205 SMW 206-215 LHW 216-230 HW 231-265 SHW 266 + Fighters choose the class they are able to stay within for 6 weeks leading up to the fight. Weigh in 6 weeks out, 3 weeks out and fight night before heading to the cage. Plus 3 random checks.
I'm down for this just for the sheer hilarity that could happen. Ngannou @MW Stipe @WW Rumble @LW Conor fighting 4'11" midgets in a new 95lbs division
This is an okay idea. But what about instead of before the fight, the fighters get weighed in two months after the fight? And what if instead of numbers, they get their weight reported with letters that don't form words?
Each man gets to bring a bag of weapons into the cage (no guns or blades) The catch is that your opponent picks two weapons from your bag, one for him and one for you. You also do the same from your opponents bag Thus it would behoove the combatants to secretly become a master in two obscure weapons which their opponent is unfamiliar with
I comprehend the concept the idea is just flat out stupid weight classes in all combat sports exist for a reason - think about that for a second so basically guys starve for 2 months to get to as low as possible and then put back on as much bulk as possible ? if you think watching 250 rumble johnson fight 185 guys will make the sport better please refer back to the video I sent
But what really is the difference between that and what currently happens, except guys starve for 2 months to get as low as possible before every fight, putting at risk every fight, hurting their bodies in the long term, and putting on less exciting fights? Also 250 Rumble wouldn't be fighting guys who are 185 on the night of the fight, just like 250 Rumble isn't fighting guys who are 205 in his last few fights.
the difference is that because they make weight the day prior they are going to be relatively similar in size your system is absurd but would allow for a much larger variation in size
