The soundtrack, mystery elements creates some really great atmosphere it this movie. I love movies like that, wish there was more of it out there.

Check this intro, sets the mood perfectly.

Every couple of years we get this exact same thread.

Same movie, same comment, same video.

Not gonna be a popular opinion I guess but Polanski was a genius. Would definitely recommend you check out Repulsion, The Tenant and Rosemary's Baby for the atmosphere thing

Would think you'd also like this film

I don’t argue these opinions. We are judging his work, not his morals and penchant for young girls. The 9th Gate was a very cool and interesting flick.

A solid 6.5/10 film pretending to be more.

Dude seems to have done some abominable shit in his life.

He also seems to have had some abominable bad luck, bouncing from the Holocaust in his formative years to Charles fucking Manson in his 30s.

Who knows if there might have been a great artist and a good man in Polanski with a less torturous life in his first 35 or 40 years.

Probably helped that he was someone from the European New Wave who switched properly to the UK and then Hollywood whilst still at his peak(were as Antonioni was on the decline IMHO) which meant he was visually more advanced than most New Hollywood guys in the late 60's and early 70's(besides maybe Malick). I don't think its until the late 70's that Hollywood really started to catch up to the level of something like Chinatown.
