Yeah, I watched these before, awesome stuff. That's a pretty fucking intense gym.

from 11 of april until today the european weightlifting championships were held in italy. eurosport had every event live. that means there were 3 hours of oly lifting on tv the last week :icon_chee. is saw a lot of these polish guys there.

How come Marcin Dolega didn't lift in them?

Its been posted before, but its worth posting again. Those videos are awesome I enjoyed watching them and I dont even do olympic lifting.

The atmosphere in that gym is cool its just all business.

I'm eating Doritos.

How come they do deadlifts in oly shoes? I guess they're just training with what they're gonna compete in.

More insider info:

Marcin's older brother (there are three of them and they all lift) just took the bronze a few hours ago.

The place where they lift is quite close to where I normally live (I've even been there by bike several times) and it's a small town with countless leafy areas whose unofficial symbol is the statue of a wisent (European bison) with a large penis.

And now time for Ollie Williams with the Blackie Weather Forecast. Ollie?

Marcin is fucking awesome.

Yep, nice training facility, but the curling machine is missing :D
One of the best thing is the old trainer, he looks like some headcoach... he walks around the whole time, giving short advice and walks on.
I wonder how those guys can do such an amount of volume without burning out, it makes me feel even weaker.

bad_coupon: did you get to train right there?

EDIT: I also wonder how they log their training with all the complexes they do: high pull x 2
clean, front squat, front squat, jerk, jerk, drop it louder than before.

Zop: I think they do everything in their oly shoes except sleeping

You can build yourself up to the volume, I think so many people are scared of the overtraining boogeyman they never push themselves to bring up their work capacity in lifting weights. Obviously, their job is to lift weights and their life is structured around that, and performance enhancing drugs are a reality in any strength sport. But whenever you see a program posted of an elite level strength athlete, everyone instantly says "Oh holy shit look at the volume you can't handle that!" I think there is something to that, and in my short experience with Sheiko programs I've found that I can handle waaaay more volume than I thought before and benching and squatting 3 to 4 times a week and deadlift variations twice isn't a problem.

Obviously, this is only applicable to those who's sport of choice is lifting, and not using strength training as GPP for something else...

There's a shitload of sports facilities down there and some of them are open for public use. I don't think I've seen that particular gym, but I used one of the swimming pools a few times and did a few laps on one of the tracks.

The place has a long tradition when it comes to athletics (mainly track & field) and some of my friends who are more into these things frequent it during the season.

The guy (Zygmunt Smalcerz) is pretty much a legend, he's an Olympic, 3-time World and 4-time European champion from the 70s.

Theyve probably all been doing the sport of weightlifting from a young age so they are conditioned to the volume. Also remember theyre olympic athletes not some average joe.

Regarding logs, their trainer probably just plans it all out for them and they just turn up and lift what theyre told to. Thats my guess anyway.

I tried deadlifting in oly shoes a couple weeks ago when I forgot to take them off after doing squats. For me, there didn't seem to be much difference.

I think the rationale for most people that go barefoot or in chuck taylors is to put your body closer to the floor and decrease the travel of the bar. But, I would imagine wearing oly shoes would be no different than deadlifting a 1 inch platform, not that big difference unless you are a competitive PL or something like that.

That's what he looks like... a guy who knows his stuff through experience...

It's not that I wonder how they can do it, haha, thinking about it, I was wondering how I would handle that kind of volume *dies*

AND seeing them lift looks like some kind of meditation.... shitload of weights, sure! But it looks meditative somehow. Someone gets the same impression or trains with that feeling?

Regarding logs, their trainer probably just plans it all out for them and they just turn up and lift what theyre told to. Thats my guess anyway.

That's what I thought, too.
