Oliveira and Dariush Right Place at the Right Time

Ferguson's striking was at its worst against Kevin Lee (he was barely able to land besides one check hook), while he mixed up his striking better than ever against Pettis and that is the fight where he pushed the pace the most. Talk about Helen Keller eyesight. It's amazing what people who never train see when they watch MMA.
Yes, your explanations just proved to me you have no fucking clue what you're watching lol

Both these guys look like the type that have absolutely worked their asses off to get where they are. I couldn't disagree more with the "right place right time" argument.

You can put qualifiers on any fighters' opponents to try and discredit them, but that's a worn out ruse that isn't fooling anybody.

Islam fought twice in 2018, twice in 2019, had 2 fights cancelled in 2020 due to Covid and in 2021 he has his 2nd fight booked in mid-July...on track to fight 3 times in 2021

People who claim Islam is inactive are living in the past (pre 2017) and/or ignoring Covid factors beyond his control. Either of the two reeks of heterism or trolling.

How many fights has he pulled out of? UFC is going to do no favors if you consistently ruin cards regardless of the reason. Pretty sure every fighter has a reason to pull out of a fight during training camp.

lol Dariush and his accidental 7 fight win streak.

Oliveira and his 8.

I know this guy makes dumb threads but this is one of my favorites in recent memory.

Oliveira did not only get propelled because who he beat, but how he beat them. And nearly losing to Chandler is hardly an argument for anything.
This is further from the truth, imo. He played his cards right. UFC wanted to fuck him, leave him out of the picture, until Khabib retired. Wanted him to short notice fight with chandler at UFC 258 for title eliminator. UFC was prepared to give Chandler the title shot off the win against hooker to Khabib if Khabib had come back.

They wanted to make it inconvenient for charles to fight for the tile, but right place, right time, and he asked a fair price, maybe even bargain price to get the title shot. and the UFC won't pass on that. Tony probably made more money than charles last night. No champions so no ppv points.

Yeah you are right.

Chandler is tougher than the casuals give him credit for and Charles win last night was extraordinary. Heart of a Champion stuff. This thread sounds like an attempt to blow smoke of Khabib's ass but the fact is Khabib quit in his prime and never had to face Charles, who's skillset, speed and heart would be his toughest challenge. Dustin will lose to Charles also.

90% of success is just showing up. Charles consistently has fought 2-3 times a year in his UFC career same with Baneil. Islam could have been in the exact same position if he were active.
Agree. And Khabib averaged about one fight a year also and somehow managed to avoid Charles.

Ignoring stuff beyond his control - twice - once for staph infection and another time for undisclosed reasons (according to Wikipedia)

Islam is on a 7 fight win streak - same as Oliveira before he got a TS and same as Dariush who is now considered ready for a title eliminator.

Dariush's "big wins" are a washed up Tony and CDF (who is arguably no bigger a win at this point than Dober)

Oliveira's "big wins" before his TS were a washed up Tony and Fighter Kevin Lee (who is also ranked similar to Dober)

Oliveira's strength of schedule is head and shoulders better than Islam.

You are either legitimately stupid or you do all this stuff for attention.

Kevin Lee was ranked #8 when Oliveira fought him. Dober was unranked when he fought Islam.

Typical Sherdog. Ferguson is suddenly past his prime just because he lost. Ignore how he looked the same as he always did.
You think Tony looks the same out there? He’s old as hell for a LW and has a ton of mileage. He looks like he’s aged 20 years since 2018. Not to mention the epic damage he took in the Gaethje fight. Noticeably slower and more timid and his reaction time looks like shit. It’s nearly 2 years since he last won a fight. Definitely past his prime.

Do u understand a circular argument? When someone is over-ranked, their opponent is at the right place at the right time. If you're trying to prove me wrong, quoting the ranking of opponents is irrelevant at best and proves my point at worst.

Both of these guys got propelled to being top contenders by beating a past-prime Tony Ferguson who at the time was a fringe top 15 at best but had a top 5 rank next to his name. Low Risk High Reward.

Oliveira was very competitive with Fighter Kevin Lee just a year ago, then beat a shot version of Tony and almost lost to Chandler last night.

Dariush was getting pieced up by Drew Dober (who then got dominated by Islam), got a split decision over fringe top 15 CDF then a win over a should-be retired Tony. By beating over-ranked Tony he'll be in a contender fight next.

Discuss

The key thing they did was stay active and win fights.

It wasn't until they beat over-ranked Tony that they finally got the rank and respect they deserve.

That’s often how it works though, isn’t it? You move up the rankings by winning while other guys are losing. I wouldn’t have argued with it if Beneil had jumped ahead of a few more guys after beating CDF, but ultimately the fight that is gonna make or break you in the top ten is your first fight against a highly ranked guy.

Chandler beats any version of Islam at any moment of the timeline in any universe that exists.
