Oliveira and Dariush Right Place at the Right Time

Tony wasn't fringe top 15 when Oliveira fought him. He was #1 contender just 1 fight ago, i don't think losing to Justin Gaethje bump you out of the Top 5

That's why I said right place at the right time. No one knew how much Tony degressed so he propelled both of these guys' rankings.

life is so being at the right place at the right time....poor tony

Both of these guys got propelled to being top contenders by beating a past-prime Tony Ferguson who at the time was a fringe top 15 at best but had a top 5 rank next to his name. Low Risk High Reward.

Oliveira was very competitive with Fighter Kevin Lee just a year ago, then beat a shot version of Tony and almost lost to Chandler last night.

Dariush was getting pieced up by Drew Dober (who then got dominated by Islam), got a split decision over fringe top 15 CDF then a win over a should-be retired Tony. By beating over-ranked Tony he'll be in a contender fight next.

Islam Mackachev is boring and no one wants to watch him fight.

Olivera has been ducked by the elite for YEARS!

Dana and the top 10 would not even say Olivera’s name out loud until Charles had an 8 fight win streak.....

Right place at the right time?? No. DuBronx kicked in the door.

Just compeltely ignore the 10 years or whatever it has taken Oliviera to hone his craft to the elite levels in BJJ, striking, endurance, fighting nous and.pretty much all the other facets of MMA.

That finishing sequence to put Chandler on his ass was exquisite.

Typical Sherdog. Ferguson is suddenly past his prime just because he lost. Ignore how he looked the same as he always did.

It's not just because he lost, but HOW he lost. He's now lost the last 9 of 11 rounds in his UFC fights. Got his arm snapped by Oliveira, knee popped by Dariush. Utterly dominated on the feet and ground.

There's a reason why Ali was pushing so hard for Islam to fight Tony last year, even going so far as to offer money. Tony has real star power and as cruel as it sounds, beating a guy on the decline is the quickest way to boost your profile. This is the formula UFC follows for all of their prospects.

Justin and Dariush, who are also Ali's clients, were able to take advantage while Islam missed out. At this point, nobody in the top 10 benefits from fighting Tony anymore. Legacy fights with Nick Diaz or other old timers should be the only fights Tony is allowed to take.

Charles is on a 9 fight win streak with 8 finishes...
Yes I am sure he got the title shot on one fight alone...

Lol.

I want to see Dariush fight Justin

Perfect fight to see if Justin's grappling is as bad as it looked against Khabib.

yea cause Charles was at the right place right time for the last 9 fights right ? what luck lol

Ya your mancrush has been in the right place right time too for the last 3 years or so, and he's only fought 3 times in that span.

More like they've been active and taking on whoever is in front of them, good for them. Fuck inactivity and unproven hype, get in the cage or shut up.
And didn’t Islam/Ali already call out Tony on Twitter immediately after his loss to Dariush?

Islam wants that easy fight to propel him up the rankings I guess. Because he’s certainly not active enough to have propelled himself up the rankings.

Pull out. Pull out. One dominant fight. Ramadan.... A year in the life of Islam.

90% of success is just showing up. Charles consistently has fought 2-3 times a year in his UFC career same with Baneil. Islam could have been in the exact same position if he were active.

Islam fought twice in 2018, twice in 2019, had 2 fights cancelled in 2020 due to Covid and in 2021 he has his 2nd fight booked in mid-July...on track to fight 3 times in 2021

People who claim Islam is inactive are living in the past (pre 2017) and/or ignoring Covid factors beyond his control. Either of the two reeks of heterism or trolling.

His last fight of his prime was 2017 against Kevin Lee...and by prime I mean he got a serious injury and a serious surgery and that was the end.

You have to have Helen Keller level eyesight if you think prime Tony Ferguson was fighting Anthony Pettis.

Ferguson's striking was at its worst against Kevin Lee (he was barely able to land besides one check hook), while he mixed up his striking better than ever against Pettis and that is the fight where he pushed the pace the most. Talk about Helen Keller eyesight. It's amazing what people who never train see when they watch MMA.
