I just watched Ridleys Scotts Gladiator on Blu Ray and I thought to myself...damn this looks really good on blu ray for being an older movie.

I seen a few older movies on blu ray that didnt look that great.

So my question is: what classic movies look really good on Blu Ray?

I don't know your definition of older. But The Fifth Element looks fucking awesome.

Scream Factory has done an amazing job with their Blu Ray list:

    Halloween II and III
Assault on Precinct 13 (Carpenter original)
    The Town that Dreaded Sundown
    The Fog
    Night of the Demons

also The Thing looks incredible on Blu Ray

I thought this would be about how The Maltese Falcon looks great on bluray. That's old.

    Blade Runner looks amazing.

So does this. Both from the same year.

We'll, this isn't blu-ray but yesterday I walked into a room where people were watching ghostbusters 2 on the highest definition setting on Netflix. I was shocked how good it looked. It looked like a new movie set in the 80's. It must have been a recent transfer.

Film is effectively more than 4k resolution, so properly transferred classics even from the 50s can look fabulous on blu.

Some standouts for me are the newest release of robocop, blade runner final cut, alien and aliens, the original TRON, and more I can't recall.

I didn't know old movies were available in HD, considering old movies on DVD look like crap. After watching stuff in HD on BluRay, DVD quality doesn't look very sharp or vivid.

alien was the first thing that came to mind, but it has already been mentioned. the remastered terminator for blu ray was a big improvement imo.

I have a huge Blu Ray collection. ALIEN is amazing. Some others :
    Wizard of OZ
    Apocalypse now
    Indiana Jones
    2001 space odyssey

Sometimes they look so good you can see the makeup lines and prosthetics though.

Gladiator counts as an older movie? Kind of an easy choice since it didn't have any real special effects and was shot on film.

I have the Criterion version of the Third Man and it looks amazing. Terminator 2 was another good one.

Terminator 2 still looks really respectable.

Star Wars looks good as well, but I guess it should after being remastered 40 times.

+1 for The Thing, Apocalypse Now, and Jurassic Park. I came in here to say those.
