Old standard of MMA not that good?

Man, as a long time fan it pains me to say, the likes of Shogun and Machida were never that good. Watching Lyoto get layed out for the umpfteen time in Ballater or a fat Shogun tapping to a guy from Scotland and losing to OSP (who let's face it, if you lose to him you shouldn't be in the ufc) is just sad. Good for their time but 5"11 middleweight at best.

It's called getting older.
 
They just aged. They were technical for their time. Nowadays you have guys who can be more gifted physically. If Shogun was still young today. He would probably be forced to fight at 185 for optimal results. Maybe we will never see styles in MMA like Wand. I love the man but he pretty much windmilled and stomped his way to a title
 
Shogun won the pride Grand Prix in like 2005, did you expect him to be better than that 17 years later at 40?
