Oh how far our sport has grown. His opponent was legit!!
doesn't show up on my computer
In a snowstorm of all places?
I would prefer bare-knuckle fights in the UFC. Fighters would have to be much more strategic about striking and couldn't just throw wild hay-makers because there is too much risk in injuring their hands.
Was a better fight then I thought it would be
more than that, i think the gloves actually enable the one-hitter-quitter shots that are so common in mma by allowing the striker to better concentrate his power in his fist. if anybody's ever watched bare knuckle fighting you notice that one punch KO's are pretty rare, even among guys experienced at it.
That was a good fight. Nick really turned it up after first round
Nice find! Does anyone know who Nick's opponent is by any chance?
I don't know his name, but he was a purple belt at the time and nick was a blue belt
Nice vid. surprised it didn't surface before.
This is a good example that people don't swing for the fence when they don't have gloves. Hook punches and haymakers equal broken hands.
The whole idea of the Octagon was to display realistic fighting. Gloves change it significantly.
Looks like he used the Jon Jones/Mackenzie style guillotine at the end?
That was incredible. I love watching bare knuckle mma.
It really shows how important submissions are. It really sucks to beat someone senseless with bare hands and shins, chopping yourself up in the process. It is so much cleaner to just soften them up for the finishing hold.
That dude in blue is the exact type of person I've always had a really hard time with sparring
Great post, this fight made me think of Pancrase right off the bat. I always though bare knuckle would make fighters more tentative on the feet ( I hate that the most about mma). I though we'd be sacrificing more active striking for realism. But good fights are more dependent on the fighters not as much the rules. Part of me also thinks boxing should uses lighter or mma type gloves for similar effect. But idk that much about boxing.
