Fights are stood up after three seconds of ground time? That means these fights can't be considered pro MMA fights, they're mixed rules at best. You did note that they have no effect on their official records, but this is a strange exhibition event.

3 seconds seems a little harsh.

Maybe one minute.

Oh well, coronavirus for the win.

Its "MMA Standup fightstyle"(in Octagon and with MMA small gloves) and its also pretty unique event i created thread about it over here because Oktagon is MMA promotion and in times like this we should appreciate every try by promotions

Yes its weird rule but its something new they call it "MMA Standup fight" they wanted give little advantage to wrestlers so after 3 takedowns in one round they obtain same points as for Knockdown - unique and weird rules but its going to be crazy.. mainly 80/90/100 kg pyramids

Why even allow takedowns if it is only 3 seconds?

Why even allow takedowns if it is only 3 seconds?
u have to ask owners of Oktagonmma if u want to know it for 100 % but i guess its bcs they want give some advantage to MMA fighters and also test takedown defense of guys from glory and other world class fighters which are not from MMA + MMA standup is different to Muaythai,Kickbox etc.why? fear of takedown... btw i hope there will be some slam Ko's

If only 3 secs it seems pointless, might as well watch kickboxing.

3 takedowns in one round are count as *knockdown and 1 takedown as significant strike

So does have Oktagonmma potential to take over Europe???

The potential to take over Europe ?!
Well il depends of the number of practionners in czech republic, the quality of the coaching, the tradition of martial arts practice in the country, the support of a tv channel etc...
Said like that, i doubt they can "take over" europe anytime soon but i wish them the best.
(21k attendance is huge and its a great thing, i think gus vs rumble did more though)

I mean....
Do they have any pull what-so-ever outside Checkoslovakia?

Seems difficult to overtake KSWs's popularity (who sold out 50.000+ arenas and has beachheads in other countries) but we'll have to see how well they move on after losing big stars like Mamed and Pudz.

A lot of the Russian orgs are hobbies of oligarcs and billionares so they're not as concerned with ratings or ticket-buyers. And those who aren't are like M-1 are in a decline.

Pretty cool though that a new org is springing up though. Especially from a more anonymous country like Czech.

Don't know if there is an organization that can take over europe, at all.
MMA isn't that popular here outside some exceptions in central/eastern europe. Where the market already seems to be quite saturated.

And I am not sure if you can get the people in western europe interested (on a big scale) for another MMA organization than the UFC.
And southern europeans don't seem to be into combat sports in general.
Imo the market with the biggest potential is the balkan region, where KSW already slowly started to expand.

I have to admit Oktagon and MMA in the czech republic has grown faster than I thought and expected.
Would think that the rise and fall of XFN probably also had some influence to this.
But yeah, the czech republic and slovakia aren't big countries and sooner or later their potential will be exploited and oktagon has to expand if they are actually interested in growing.

By rumours Oktagon is supported by Ivo Rittig which was able to buy UFC and he refused to because he wanted to support home scene - he also support most of Czech top fighters so i think they have enough money to take over europe and they think that they have right recipe to do it so we will see in the future .. BTW their PR is incredible they know how to hype shitty fighters and how to build big story around every match and yes MMA is no popular in much countries in europe but it was same over here and now? its probably most popular sport over here all because of Vémola and Oktagon + they sold out tickets for Oktagon 16 in 2 hours 13-14k tickets in 2 hours...

and gyms in Cz/Sk? - MMA Monster coach Petr Kníže - (Makhmud Muradov) , Penta Gym coach Daniel Barták( Viktor Pešta - UFC Veteran) , ReindersMMA coach André Reinders (Michal Martínek -Oktagon HW champ, currently in PFL) ,
Jetsaam Gym coach Martin Karaivanov (Jiří Procházka- Rizin LHW Champ , currently in UFC) , MMA Příbram coach Ladislav Erdélyi (Lucie Pudilová - UFC Veteran), OFA coach Ilja Škondrič (Klein ,Deák,Barborík etc..), Spartakus fight gym Trnava (Attila Végh - former Bellator champ) ,All Sports Academy Hradec Králové (Patrik Kincl - KSW , David Dvořák - UFC)
Honorable mentions: PriMMAt Gym Prague , Hanuman GYM

They mentioned MMA Monster in last UFC Connected -

Nah, Europe is going to stay regional outside the UFC. It might compete with KSW in Eastern Europe, but I can't see it competing with ACA in Russia and I don't think anyone in the UK is going to give much of a shit about it.

I think ARES are best positioned to do well in France. Cage Warriors has some presence in Denmark. Germany I imagine would be more likely to have their own. I think other Eastern European places are realistic.

If a country isn't clamouring for the UFC to come to it I'm not sure how big MMA can really get in those areas. Even someone like KSW who by all accounts has found great success in Poland. I really wonder how strong they are from a financial standpoint.

From a fan's perspective you usually seek out the best a sport has to offer on the most simplest level. North America you take Football for example, NFL kills it in the US, Canada, and Mexico and the CFL(Canada) does well in Canada but is literally not followed at all outside of Canada. I'm sure there is pockets of CFL fans in the US but they mean very little to the revenue line of the CFL. I think the European countries in general the MMA fans follow UFC first and foremost and these regional shows secondary. Not that these regional promotions can't find success but to think they can overtake a continent as the number 1 MMA promotion when the UFC is out there is probably a stretch most of the time.

Will be like KSW, i was hoping for them to be more english speaking. I mean yes, Rizin is japanese but they have atleast english commentators.
