OK so obviously, age took Anderson's speed...but where is the technique?

Hmmmmm no?
I mean some of them he did...on purpose...but he never ran to brawl....and most punches didn't get to him because of head and body movement

Hall wasn't engaging. It would've been a shit fight if he didn't turn it up.

Part of being old isn't just becoming slower and having less reflexes, it's also becoming stupid. You can see every shot fighter around 40 except Randy and Hendo become really stupid. You get less intelligent every year as you get older, and eventually in your 60s or 70s you're diagnosed with an actual clinical problem. But no one at 50 is more intelligent, more wise yes, than they were when they were 25.

Lol where did you get this nonsense? Many people are idiots at age 25.

It sucks, he ate that short hook but until that point he was winning rd 3 and would have been up 2 rds to 1 on 2 judges scorecards and 3-0 on the other. He looks so frail now though, if he had the same speed/power/chin/reflexes as he did in his prime Hall would have been finished pretty early. Also his Thai clinch that he brutalizes so many with is gone now. I also wonder if he should have just tried to take Hall down and use his superior BJJ.

You've got to adapt and use every advantage you can if you want to stay successful even when you're well past your prime. He has 77% td accuracy and it's been a long ass time since he's even attempted a takedown. Hall wouldn't be expecting it.

His body cannot do what his brain tells him to do....his physical capabilities have declined and with it his genius.

Actually, contrary to what a lot of people are saying in this thread, according to scientific studies reflexes barely decline as you age, until at around 60-70 where they decline very rapidly. Anderson at 45 is, for all intents and purposes, as "fast" as he was at 25.

technique seems good still, but speed+reaction timing is so important in MMA, especially if you're not fighting at heavyweight.

I'd like to.see the evidence for that.

There's a reason pro athletes in most sports have a limited pro life span. They can't keep up with the athletic ability of those coming through, and it's harder to maintain that elite performance.

Even if the decline is marginal the difference is enough to affect performance. Often fine margins are the difference between winning and losing.

Maintaining the motivation to train and maintaining the hunger to succeed is also difficult to sustain. The body changes as you get older and the mind with it.

Something tells med Anderson kind of threw the fight. He had a beef with Dana and wanted a more worthy opponent for his last fight, he got Hall and felt dissed and didn’t even try.
He’s been fighting the same way for years.

Also mandatory
<{danayeah}>

Hes too slow to counter vs. a fast opponent so he have to pressure to get anything going at all.. and then you will not be as precise in your precision.. his overall technique is still fine.

I'm sorry bro but this have to be one of the most stupid theory ever crafted on Sherdog and that is a big achievement, lol.

He's old and slow and until you've experienced then phenomena of seeing an opening and going for it and it's gone by the time you've reacted you'll never know.

You see things that you'd have taken advantage of when you were young but that you still see but are too late to pull the trigger so to speak and end up either missing the opportunity or end up leaving yourself vulnerable because you went for it (but it had passed).

speed and reflexes let him get away with stuff in the past. that's why its funny when people confuse physical advantages with technique. it all contributes to overall effectiveness but it wasn't just skill he had over the years that made him successful.

The 3rd round behind the ear over the top knockdown or the 4th round counter where Silva came in with sloppy punches? The elbow I mean.

I think Silva hit hall with a lead elbow standing. Soon after that hall dropped him and Silva was saved by the bell.

Up to that point it was a tit for tat sparring match.

Technique requires the speed to deliver it in the window found/given. As speed and reflexes decline, the technique at the full speed of a fight will either start to look like shit, or you'll see them not able to pull the trigger

when you spend years learning how to manipulate people with your current speed, when that starts going down it throws everything you've been perfecting out of whack. you've been training and honing your skill at 25mph and now you're moving at 15mph, your style and techniques aren't made for that speed. now you have to make up for that 10mph loss with something else, and Anderson chose aggression.

he used to make up for it with taunting, to get the other guy to fire more recklessly and make it easier for him to slip a counter in, but that stopped working because he's now even slower.

Guys, he's 45 and has fought nothing but killers

Anderson is like Roy Jones.

Roy jones didnt have the fundamentals to keep himself competitive in his later years like hopkins did. Neither did Andy.

He used his athleticism, reflexes to dominate guys. Sure he was technically ahead of his time too but those MMA times sucked when you have Forrest griffin and franklin as champion. Anderson was like Ali fighting in rocky marcianos era. Of course he looked like a god.

This is a very stupid post.

You are actually more daring and careless in your 20s. Its not that the young studs are better fighters because of being more smart.

They got more power, speed, better reflexes, and they are more brave and careless.

Lol, imagine him, by his own logic, only getting more stupid, the more he ages. How stupid will his post tomorrow be?
