I've read both and Homage to Catalonia though it's been many moons meow.

Animal Farm was about the Russian revolution and how it turned sour. If you wanna see 1984's double speak see the DoW turning into the DoD, The Patriot Act, Right To Work, etc. I remember 1984 being about a totalitarian government, struck me as particularly rightwing and given that he fought with anarchists against fascists I'm gonna take a guess that he wasn't terribly conservative though there are some negatives to him though they elude my memory.

Though it's been awhile since I've read Homage To Catalonia I don't remember him being a conservative anarchist (lol, what r that), maybe that came later. I do remember him saying the Capitalists were more concerned with the anarchists than the fascists and both worked against the anarchists. That's kind of a big detail.
