Like a lot of companies, Deck 13 seems to have taken fan feedback to heart, resulting in a couple small, yet important changes. First and foremost, The Surge 2 will no longer follow Warren, replaced by a customizable character, which includes gender, beards, race and all that good stuff. From there, it’s no longer centered in a building, taking place outside in a fenced off town.

From what was shown, enemies were hostile mercenaries, looking to come out ahead. These enemies seemed significantly smarter than any enemy in The Surge, utilizing traps, stealth armor, laying in wait and more. To counter this, they increased weapon types to 10, created new armor and changed drones.

Only one of the new weapons was shown, a bladed hammer that was a hybrid of heavy-duty and dual wield. If this sounds confusing, the way the weapon works is slower attacks use the weapons full force, where as rapidly pressing attack separates it into two distinct and different weapons.

No specifics were given on armor, outside of two things. You still need to remove limbs to obtain a schematic and then craft it and some armor from the original will return. No specifics were given on returning content, though they confirmed it will be a “tasteful” amount.

In addition to collecting armor schematics and weapons, long range weapons can also be obtained by enemies. Instead of using a gun to blast foes, these weapons are applied to the drone, potentially giving players far more options than were previously available.

While The Surge 2 is still in the early stages of development, it certainly seems like it’s heading in the right direction. With plans to increase the number of bosses, more varied combat, a more diverse location to explore and more, it looks to be much of what players were looking for in a sequel. Hopefully, as we get closer to the 2019 release, it will continue to improve and be everything fans are hoping for.

I was late to the party with the first one, but really enjoyed it once I got going. Will not make that mistake with The Surge 2, I will definitely pick up at launch.

yeah ill be fuckin with this day one.

Just a heads up that The Surge part 1 is on sale for 12 bucks at the Xbox store
Picked it up yesterday and its kinda cool but damn is it easy to die
I never played any of the Souls games so this shits kinda frustrating but also kinda addictive

Yea get ready to die a lot that's how the souls games work. I never beat The original Surge. I got to the area where you kind of have to repeat an area and got stuck on the boss there. I barely tried beating the boss though. Can't think of on Souls game I've ever beat they are always fun but I never finish them.

I liked the first one a lot and usually i hate when they make a mute character with no personality but ive grown accustomed to that in souls games so im cool with it in this case

Ill definitely pick it up i got his on sale with all DLC and was totally worth it

I died 162 times in my playthrough lol

Not to derail, but has there been any updates on the development of that other “Dark Souls in space” game, I think it was called Hellpoint or something. It was looking cool.

its pretty shit

One thing I want Deck13 to change is to not follow in From footsteps and make a story that is clear to know what we are fighting, what we are doing.

I know DS has a lot of lore but this style of storytelling shouldn't be copied.

i can agree with that

Hope they improve level design, enemy design, and the story.

Never finished the first one, got so bored with it. Samey level design where you wander in circles, then something hits you from offscreen and one shots you. Enemies didn't feel difficult, they just did insane damage

Just got the Surge 1 in a Humble Bundle, I was never interested, but I might fuck with it a bit.

here brother worm

I was just watching someone stream the demo. It kinda reminds me of Let It Die for some reason, although obviously a different genre with being a shooter.

I would consider getting that if the controls are responsive and it handles well. The setting looks pretty neat and it appears to have i-frames on rolling, which is a great mechanic, IMO.

Seems a sensible preorder to me, I imagine, to show the developer some love. Home (cool stuff, give a scroll-down) and available here.

Ghost, mind a thread-title update accordingly for release date?
