A pair of 2012 Olympians will put their unified junior welterweight titles on the line for the distinction of becoming undisputed on May 22 when WBC and WBO champion Jose Ramirez faces WBA (Super), IBF and The Ring titleholder Josh Taylor at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas.
Ramirez (26-0, 17 KOs) won the vacant WBC title in 2018 with a unanimous decision over Amir Imam and collected the WBO title with a sixth-round TKO of Maurice Hooker in 2019. The 28-year-old from Fresno, Calif., recently defended his titles with a majority decision against Viktor Postol last August in what was considered an underwhelming performance.
The gold journey of Taylor (17-0, 13 KOs) took place at the World Boxing Super Series where he won the IBF title with a unanimous decision over Ivan Baranchyk in 2019 and narrowly got by the previously undefeated Regis Prograis in the WBSS finals to add the WBA (Super) and vacant The Ring championship. Taylor's last title defense came against an grossly overmatched opponent in Apinun Khongsong, who the Scottish fighters stopped in one round last September.
When is the Josh Taylor vs. Jose Ramirez fight?
