I am not as familiar with boxing scoring because usually it's much clearer in fights.
I missed the first 2 rounds, but included the scoring criteria for boxing below:
  • Effective Aggression – Being aggressive gives the impression of dominance, but unless the boxer is landing shots and not constantly getting countered, it’s not exactly “effective.” Judges look for effective aggression, where the aggressor consistently lands his punches and avoids those from his opponent.
  • Ring Generalship – The fighter who controls the action and enforces his will and style.
  • Defense – How well is a boxer slipping, parrying, and blocking punches? Good defense is important.
  • Hard and Clean Punches – To the untrained eye, it can appear as if a boxer is landing a lot of shots, when, in fact, most are being blocked or aren’t landing flush. A judge needs to look for hard shots that land clean.
The main difference I guess was that whilst Woodley landed the bigger shots, Paul was also landing even if they barely did much to Woodley.
Woodley landed on the gloves whilst Paul landed body shots and jabs. Boxing scores defence whilst MMA doesn't. paul got away with the big gloves, but in 4 ounces he was getting put out.
I see why he is sticking to boxing even though both Paul brothers have wrestling backgrounds.

MMA striking is completely different to boxing. In MMA the single leg takedown and low kick were there all day for Woodley. Even in a kickboxing fight, Paul wouldn't have lasted that fight.
I still think Woodley would take a rematch and will be betting against Paul if his next fight is a step up in comp in anyway. That fight showed me what I believe is his ceiling. crazy these guys have us talking about them boxing though.

Paul was actually landing the more effective shots even hurting Woodley, it's just one round Woodley rocks Jake and won that round because he was the aggressor and landing but the other earlier rounds Woodley was doing nothing, while Jake was scoring punches.

3 years is the amazing of time jake has been training. world class level = not just championship level but higher echelon championship level. there is literally no one in history who has been a world class fighter in boxing after 3 years of training. are you considering 10 years a “similar amount of time” to 3 years? because it’s absolutely not.

Dude, you’re referencing some great great uncle who boxed over 100 years ago. Lmao. That’s not a boxing family. They Mayweathers are a boxing family. The Garcias are a boxing family, a distant relative from the 1800s doesn’t add anything to his boxing pedigree. I’ll forgive your ignorance, but let’s throw that reference away lmao. Farmer has even said he didn’t follow boxing before he started training.

You are arguing a point I never made. I will quote it again and even underline the part you’re missing from what I said:
“There are plenty of examples of fighters who picked up boxing late and were fighting at least close to world class level in a similar amount of time.”

I never said these guys were what they would eventually become, but they looked pretty good after only 3 years.

i’m telling you that is flat out untrue lmao all of these dudes took very early losses in their careers to nobodies and didn’t blossom until very late. martinez/qawi/farmer, literally everyone you named

The people referring to the 3 year training topic are odd. If you've trained at gyms, you should've of come across guys who were more skilled with the same or less amount of training time than Jake. Jake displays himself as someone who has boxed between 2-3 years.

He’s OK. He’s been fighting weird gimmick fights so it’s hard to say where he’s really at. Give him a year of fighting some low ranked boxers and then he would be ranked and we would have a much better idea of how good he actually is.

That's fine but I tuned in at the end of round 3. I still think 4 rounds easily could have gone to Woodley.
No issues with Paul winning, but I definitely agree with the split and saw it the same way as the dissenting judge.

I definitely think that Paul came off looking average at best and was being pressured by Woodley. It says a lot that the guy walking backwards and getting pressed against the ropes won the fight in boxing. It's not like it was some Floyd masterclass in defence. He just backed up for 6 rounds against the fighter 2 weight classes below him. He wins under boxing rules, but Woodley is a wrestler. I just find it funny that people try and say he looked good because he faced adversity, but I think it put a serious question mark on a step up in competition, but I am guessing the next "boxer" will be handpicked. Maybe Chris Weidman once his leg heals. I definitely like the Anderson Silva fight and would definitely bet on Anderson after that Woodley fight.
