Observation from McGregor/Diaz I

I like how you started this thread with a neutral position but have ended up essentially bashing McGregor and his abilities. Geez. Anyways, he has a good grasp on basic boxing, that's why he's the current champ.
Not defending the belt is why he is the current champ.

I also noticed something new

Conor broke around 4 mins into round one
Agreed, literally 4 minutes.

He's got that fake positivity on his face throughout the whole minute of Kavanagh talking to him lol. He's proper smiling, and he even says the whole "all day" thing as round 2 starts. He's clearly gassed at that stage, trying to talk himself up.

Poor fella.

Conor against Nate finally ran into someone who can deal with what was working for him.

Conor is extremey talented and can still be one of the best, but this is when we find out just what he is made out of.

has he hit a plateu and found his level or like The best fighters do when they come across a fighter that poses serious problems, is he going to improve and come back a better fighter.

You can either do a Hendricks and reach a certain level, lose, blame everyone else refuse to improve and then go on a downward spiral. Or you can do A GSP where he learnt from his loss and cam back better and improved.

Either way its going to be interesting, because as he gets older there is no way he can keep making 145 and will have to keep fighting at a heavier weight.

He was trying for a highlight KO. Kept throwing something to walk off Hunt Style. Was punch gassed by the time he realized Nate was there for a real fight.

He has a sneaky right uppercut, but it was shown in the Diaz fight that another top striker will begin to time it and counter it. Because years of fighting smaller, lesser competition, he has developed bad habits and never focused on the basics of boxing.

Just look at this gif, he gets tagged as he's going to throw a lead uppercut, with his power hand (and he doesn't even attempt to mask it with a feint or a feeler jab). That is a technique that shouldn't even be considered in boxing, ESPECIALLY from a distance (But against guys like Brimage, he got away with this shit).

Current champ who hasn't fought at his weight since...five months ago?

He has one relax sparring session he's released with a pro champion boxer and a single fight where he underperformed and you think he has bad boxing, huh? Very un biased and intellectually honest of you.
Current champion that hasn't fought at his weight in almost 9 months, and taking into account the time it takes for recovery and preparation between fights - will probably be a year without a defense.

Also is fighting whilst not defending, not taking a hiatus or injury related.

"relaxed sparring session" - let me retort. If it's relaxed why is it on the internet? Why did some Conor camp goof edit it to make it look like Conor was coming off the better? Why did Conor have a ridiculous video "sparring" with The Mountain, where he actually pretended like he "won", like The Mountain was actually trying to fight.

Conor is a gimmick mate, you guys don't read the book you just skim through it.

Yeah, because that's what elite fighters do - just repeat one technique over and over again?

Fedor, St. Pierre, Jones, Silva, Cruz, Johnson - all just have one technique, right?

This isn't gymnastics or a dance recital. It's a fight. You walk in a cage and fight. If Conor was as one dimensional as you so badly want him to be, he wouldn't be 19-3 with wins over Aldo, Mendes, Halloway and Porier.

Walk in a cage and do what you need to do to walk out with your hand raised.

I'll ask again: How many technically superior boxers did Mike Tyson knock out within a round? And were they better boxers?

one dimensional fighters are doomed to get owned pretty hard. I'm sure you know that being a Conor and Ronda fan.

You do realize that Conor and Ronda are very successful fighters, right? It's okay to not like someone and still acknowlege their talents and achievements.

It's fighting. Everyone (e. ver. re. one.) is doomed to get owned pretty hard (ask Silva, GSP, Aldo and Fedor).

To be fair McGregor slipped some of Nate's punches as well.
Yes, but Nate won as a result of his slips.

Yet everyone acts like Conor somehow destroyed Nate in the first round.

Some goofs even act like that shitty sweep meant that he "controlled and outgrappled" Nate, it's hilarity!

I don't know if he's going to defend his belt two weeks from now or ten years from now. But by all accounts him and Aldo will once again throw down at 205.

I don't understand the correlation between being put on the internet and the sparring session.

I don't necessarily disagree with Conor being a gimmick; I see the pro wrestling influence in him, but he's a real legit fighter.

Why the fuck would he have to do anything else if he only needs 1 hand to beat everyone.

Because specialists like that tend to get figured out quicker than more well-rounded fighters.

Another hater thread hidden behind "I'm not a hater, I analysed the fight impartially. watch how I turn every Conor comment negative"

This thread hasn't been done before...

He's an elite MMA striker. 17 of his 22 fights have ended by KO in his favor. 17 professional fighters and their coaches couldn't stop him from landing his left hand. Being one dimensional is only a negative if they can shut down that part of your game.

How many technically superior boxers did Mike Tyson knock out in his career? Were they better strikers?
I don't mean to be crass here, but you've attempted to debunk my argument with shitty points.

You clearly do not understand the art of boxing if you think Mike Tyson was a brawler. You simply have not watched enough of Mike, or do not understand Mike, if you think this guy threw one shot his whole career and brawled his way to becoming a star.

Conor faced 17 bums of his 22 fights. You throw the term professional fighters and coaches around like these bums on the European local circuit are Freddie Roach. These guys are winging it, just like most of the coaches in MMA.

MMA is still so new, and the lower weight divisions have some of the least developed games. You have fantastic fighters in the Bantamweight and Featherweight divisions, but not many true elite guys. The rounded technique is more prevalent in the older weight classes, they've simply been around longer to improve.

MMA is still so new, and a star like Ronda and Conor shows how much it is so.
