Why don't we see guys doing this to win fights against monsters like Dominick Cruz, Daniel Cormier, etc? Even if you don't succeed and blow out their knees, they're going to worry about it and fight much less effectively, afraid to pull the trigger.

It's funny to me that Conor uses these and has a history of knee problems himself. A guy could probably use these effectively against Conor.

It's my favourite kick. I know it's frowned upon but I don't care. Helps keep your range, makes them honk twice about advancing... Doesn't always have to be the knee as well. Catch them on the right part of the thigh and it's dead leg time.

The stigma against them is ridiculous. BJJ's entire concept is to win fights by causing joint injuries. Apparently, striking is cheap if it does the same thing? lol

Expect a lot of oblique kicks and eye pokes from Jones if he faces a rumble.

Might not be good for him though.. rumble gets angry when eye poked

I'd like to see an oblique kick to shin with intentions of snapping in.

Jones finishes Rumble after he gasses

Because you can tap. INJURY is avoidable. Even then, spraining or breaking an arm or leg is not equivalent to having someone push your knee in an inward position. Could end someone's career. Knees are incredibly fragile

I view oblique kicks like foot stomps not illegal but just a cheap looking technique.

Maybe. Jones coming off a long layoff and Rumble is one of the best finishers in MMA history.... you'd be a fool to think it's guaranteed that Jones wins.

Call me a fool and if that fight does get inked I'll be putting a few hundies on Jones

I've made my case before: I'm against em. No evidence, not even much consideration- just going by the look of it. I'm aware that's pretty ignorant, and I laugh at the NSAC for using the same ignorance to ban "12-6" elbows. But it just looks deadly, and I'm literally afraid of seeing some nasty injury from that kick. I love mma, and I enjoy the violence. But this particular kick is like a pet-peeve of mine.

It looks like Nate's leg was about to snap.

That's pretty irrelevant since we've actually see broken joints from subs but none for oblique kicks so far.

It should be ILLEGAL.

Jon Jones is basically doing a Wing Chun stomp kick, which happens to be endlessly practical in a real fight, but in MMA...it's straight up dangerous, as the UFC is NOT streetfighting.

That said, JJ doesn't deserve to be shit on for doing it, because it's not illegal, whereas his eye pokes are another thing entirely.

On a semi-related note, that was a bitch move when he cranked Glover's shoulder that one time...but I digress.

In summation, it's a cheap fucking move that should be banned.

Yet it hasn't

It's one of the first, if not most important moves you learn in Muay Thai.

It's ridiculously effective, VERY low risk, and potentially damaging as fuck. Why it's not used more in MMA is anyone's guess, but it's an amazing technique.

You think shattering your knee has the same effect on your body as breaking an arm? That's a potential career ending injury. Knees are no joke. An arm can heal easily.

Leg locks have a stigma against them as well. See Rousimar Palhares' career for reference.

Anything revolving around messing up a guys knee is frowned upon, regardless of the sport.

These guys could get hurt a million different ways. This type of kick has been used, effectively, without a significant amount of fight ending consequences.(none to my knowledge in MMA or the UFC)
To ban a kick, which can be defended, that hasn't caused a significant amount of issues for the sport makes no sense to me. Heel hooks should be banned before this.
