Recently Obama said this concerning the current presidential race:
"This is not entertainment. This is not a reality show. This is a contest for the presidency of the United States. What that means is that every candidate, every nominee needs to be subject to exacting standards and genuine scrutiny."

While in principle I agree with this, is this really a fair point for him to make, or is it just a bit of political mud slinging? Obama himself is no stranger to showing up on entertainment TV when it suits his purposes, and oftentimes his choice times were in election year. On top of that, George W. Bush showed up on more than a few talk shows and whatnot before him making me think this is par for the course, not something Barry should be soberly warning us about. When he talks about "genuine scrutiny" and such nodding towards Trump's bombastic persona drawing attention away from the nuts and bolts of his policy, how much did Obama himself benefit from the "Hope/Change" campaign drawing attention away from the serious question of "Who is this guy and what does he really stand for?" Is the only reason Obama is even bringing up these sober points because Trump is essentially pulling what he himself did in 2008/2012 - a bait and switch with an over the top campaign helping him avoid intense scrutiny, and making the presidency entertaining, a virtual celebrity first and politician second?

Frankly, treating the presidency and the race for it seems like it's fine for entertainment when it suits the president's purposes. All of the sudden, "This (the presidential race) is not entertainment"... Fair point from Obama, or just politicking?
