Obama Portrait artist - Kehinde Wiley controversy

I just read today an article by a very wise and eloquent Kurdish journalist in Sweden. She has written a lot about honor related violence among Kurdish people.

Today, she wrote about how funny it's when blonde Swedish men writes her and informs her about how wrong she is and that socialism and feminism are widespread among Kurdish people.

What is her name?

I have no problem with the artist or Obama's choice, certainly much more intwresti g than any previous stale portraits. However in todays day and age where ome if tge most powerful men in power can chose this artist- its hardly challenging. What woyld be challenging is if tge roles were reversed - ie white woman black head. This would probably be banned. Whats good for the goose..

Shut up you whiny race baiter.

"The right this and the right would never do that". All I see are tears from a little boy who loves to race bait.
There's always a ton of race baiting threads from the rightwingers , but you sure weren't concerned about that .

The right was mercilessly attacking Obama even though he didn't say or do a fraction of the crap Trump does. I am constantly amazed at all the shit Trump is given a pass for by the right, so that is why I keep pointing out how the reaction would be if Obama had said it.

Let's cut the shit and just be forthright. What I said in the posted you quoted is why the right hates the Obamas. They hate Blacks who won't bite their tongue and just accept their station in life as below Whites . The right only want guys like ex-Sheriff David Clark.

Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson , a White Republican laying it out there.

Colin Powell's former chief of staff says the Republican Party is "full of racists" who only want President Obama out of office because he's black.

"Let me just be candid: My party is full of racists," Col. Lawrence Wilkerson said Friday on MSNBC's "The Ed Show." "And the real reason a considerable portion of my party wants President Obama out of the White House has nothing to do with the content of his character, nothing to do with his competence as commander in chief and president, and everything to do with the color of his skin. And that’s despicable."

Repubs/Conservatives aren't racist per see, but the party and political ideology does attract anti-Black racists. Such that a large segment of the base and media subtly or not so subtly holds anti-Black views. It's not a surprise that Trump choose the GOP.

I'm not a fan of Obama's because it makes the background, and the artist's signature style, more prominent than the subject.
I would have thought one of the Whitehouse colour rooms could have provided a more notably presidential pattern for him to use in his style, even if he similarly brought the patterns to life and into the foreground. Even the ivy pattern and flowers done a little more subtly as the wallpaper of the "green room" or oval office.
Apparently Wiley isn't known for his subtlety or avoiding attention though.

Yeah , not fan of the Obama portrait either.
-Obama's left hand looks like it has 6 fingers.
-As you say, the background competes to strongly with the main subject for attention.
-Obama's leg spread is too wide apart, making it seem unnatural.

Not a fan of Michelle's portrait either.
-It's just to simplistic.

Eh... I'm more interested in the stylistic shift.
The choice of an artist known for painting black people in contexts where you'd traditionally expect a white person... seems appropriate.

The only other portrait that really stands out like that is the JFK one.

The Clinton one looks like he’s ready for a blow job.

Be a little more subtle with your trolling next time. You are being too obvious

Good lord, those paintings look like shit.

When the artist is that mediocre, it's not even worth getting riled up about their obvious intention to create some kind of contrived controversy.

I'd have figured Obama would have better taste than that. And I don't mean in a decency sense, but just a higher standard for actual quality. That's some middling art school shit.

He does tend to sit like that when he's not leaning back and crossing his legs, but the hand position makes it seem weird. Especially when he's sitting forward like that.

Everyone on sherdog is a critical race theorist and art expert. Noted

What else is going on in the country in terms of racism that they should be concerned about? Oh right...

There were some legit peaceful protestors at Charlottesville protesting the removal of American history monuments. It’s unfair to lump them in with the inbred “Neo-Nazi” crowd. His comments regarding that incident were tactful and certainly presidential. To claim that they are racist is pure idiocy.

As for the Mexico comments it’s the truth. You are turning a blind eye to the atrocities being committed by people coming from Mexico. There are some good people as he says however they are the minority.

You need to show some respect for the president and stop with your Anti-White racist bullshit.

The Confederate statues deserved to be removed. It is glamorizing the Confederacy, on public land.

When US soldiers helped pull down Saddam's statue, there was not a peep from the rightwing on it being wrong. So why is the rightwing suddenly concerned about statues being yanked.

None of that Confederate stuff should be on public property, because there are lots of taxpayers who don't support what the Confederacy stood for. Anyone who wants to see those statues can install them on private property or in a Museum.

lol fake outrage bullshit .. about a year ago you nor any of the other people complaining about this or rooting it on gave a shit .. no one gave a shit about some statue .. no one gives a shit about mostly any statues that are up right now .. fake outrage .. it's just more antiwhite 'stick it to the man' nonsense .. if these were black soldier/general statues we wouldn't be talking about this right now

I didn't even care for Obama but the guy deserves a better painting than that comic book artist wannabe shit.

It's awful. A portrait is supposed to be about the subject, not the background. The portrait is just distracting. Hopefully he gets a new one completed, or they just use one of the dozen or so decent paintings that other people have already done.

Something like this would work fine.

Do you want to reignite the tan suit controversy? Because this is how you reignite the tan suit controversy.

You are still not refuting my point. There were peaceful good people who have a different belief than you do. The civil war is an important part of American history and removing the statues is disrespectful. If you don’t agree with them then don’t visit them. The presence of such monuments does nothing to harm anyone.
