My disagreement with the article is the "What remains of the Kennedy-Truman-Clinton Democratic Party is in tatters." Statement.

Clinton was a Neo-Con and nothing remotely like Truman or Kennedy. In fact, Clinton was a stab in the heart of the Democratic party and we are seeing its decaying corpse today.

Which is why the terminology is wrong. The self-described "progressives" who burn with hatred at "centrists" who have essentially the same policy preferences (and prefer the far right to politicians on their side who they suspect of not being left enough) are better described as the performative left, while the base is more effectively left.

In general it not true that progressives and centrists have essentially the same policy positions.

Centrists just pretend to and give lip service for progressive policies that they never intend to actually fight for (see Hlllary's statement to corporations about having two positions-- one you share with the public and one you share with corporate money donors). So called "centrists" are just liars who cant get elected saying what they really think so they practice double speak to appease the progressive base while not scarring away corporate money.

I'm not so sure. There'll be a lot more infighting in the primary than a "healthy" party should have, but dem voters will come together at a minimum to vote against the evil Trump for whichever candidate ultimately gets the D by their name on the general ballot

That's a misreading of the point, which wasn't about having different policies but about how you talk to people about the policies that you prefer. And by your definition, then, "centrists" are just Bad People. You're not describing any ideological difference.
