HUSSEIN Obama said:
So don’t try to shut folks out, don’t try to shut them down, no matter how much you might disagree with them. There’s been a trend around the country of trying to get colleges to disinvite speakers with a different point of view, or disrupt a politician’s rally. Don’t do that — no matter how ridiculous or offensive you might find the things that come out of their mouths. Because as my grandmother used to tell me, every time a fool speaks, they are just advertising their own ignorance. Let them talk. Let them talk. If you don’t, you just make them a victim, and then they can avoid accountability.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t challenge them. Have the confidence to challenge them, the confidence in the rightness of your position. There will be times when you shouldn’t compromise your core values, your integrity, and you will have the responsibility to speak up in the face of injustice. But listen. Engage. If the other side has a point, learn from them. If they’re wrong, rebut them. Teach them. Beat them on the battlefield of ideas. And you might as well start practicing now, because one thing I can guarantee you — you will have to deal with ignorance, hatred, racism, foolishness, trifling folks. (Laughter.) I promise you, you will have to deal with all that at every stage of your life. That may not seem fair, but life has never been completely fair. Nobody promised you a crystal stair. And if you want to make life fair, then you’ve got to start with the world as it is.
For those who insist he wants to silence the opposition to further his BLM/SJW/ISIS agenda.

Meanwhile, Bloomberg got booed for voicing a similar position, although with far less tact and charisma.

“The fact that some university boards and administrations now bow to pressure and shield students from these ideas through ‘safe spaces,’ ‘code words,’ and ‘trigger warnings’ is, in my view, a terrible mistake,” Bloomberg said to a chorus of cheers. “The whole purpose of college is to learn how to deal with difficult situations – not run away from them.”

n a macro-sense, one of the most dangerous places on a college campus is a safe space because it creates the false impression that we can insulate ourselves from those who hold different views.”

I cant believe these tumblr terms are now mainstream speech that is discussed on a national stage.

Lol, first response was a nutjob. Great timing skip.

We get it, it's all Obama's fault.
That Hussein bastard really should have better prepared the US Navy for Pearl Harbor.

Well god damn. Good on Obama. I didn't expect him to say that.

That's a good speech. Give credit where credit is due.

"We don't mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back." -- Barack Obama

"We don't mind the Republicans joining us. They can come for the ride, but they gotta sit in back." -- Barack Obama
Here's the fuller text:
Many of the Republicans who are running right now, these are the exact same folks who spent the last decade driving our economy into a ditch. And once we were elected, Joe and I, we put on our boots, we went down into that ditch. It was muddy and dusty down there and it was hot. And we started pushing on that car to get it out of the ditch. And we had a whole bunch of folks like Joe Sestak helping us push that car out of the ditch. (Applause.)

And every once in a while, we'd look up at the Republicans. They were -- they had driven into the ditch, but they had gotten out and they were kind of taking a break, fanning themselves and sipping on a Slurpee, watching us do all the work. And every once in a while they'd say, why don't you push harder? You're not pushing the right way, Obama. But they didn't help.

And after pushing and pushing over these last 20 months, finally we've got that car out of the ditch. (Applause.) Now, the car is a little dented up. The fender is a little busted. It needs a tune-up. But it's moving. It's pointing in the right direction. We're on level ground now. We're starting to make repairs. And suddenly we get a tap on our shoulder and we look back and who is it? It's the Republicans. And they say -- what are they saying? -- they say, we want the keys back.

AUDIENCE: No!

THE PRESIDENT: Philadelphia, they can't have the keys back. They don't know how to drive. (Applause.) They don't know how to drive. They can ride with us if they want, but they got to get in the back seat. (Applause.) Because we want to go forward. We don't want the special interests riding shotgun. We want working families, middle-class families, up front. They're our priority.
Of course that quote has no bearing on this topic but, there you go.

In before bad seed is called a racist for calling Obama by his middle name.

Dismissing the opinions and concerns of roughly half of the people in the U.S. is what that "sit in the back" quote is about. This new speech, well having lived under this dude for seven years, it just sounds like bullshit.

You have to be an idiot to interpret it that way...

In before bad seed is called a racist for calling Obama by his middle name.

Only if you're void of sarcasm. The point is some people actually call him that without being sarcastic and they often turn out to be racist.

You have to be a fool to look at it any other way. Or disingenuous, coming from your side of things. Obama hasn't really gone to great lengths to conceal his partisan bias.

Even when Obama does something good, he gets criticized anyway. This sub forum has turned into a cesspool of right wing retards.

Paraphrasing what his racist grandma used to say about fools (non liberals) isn't exactly an endorsement of other ideas.

I think the IRS going after tea party groups is a good example of him silencing dissenting viewpoints, but of course, he was running for office. And then Louis Lerner never had to testify.

Good as long as his actions speak as loud as his words.

Talk the talk

Walk the walk

how does that "kill my point"? The fact that there are thugs within the BLM movement doesnt negate the fact that their grievances need to be voiced, particularly to people outside the black community who remain unaware of the separate reality they live in.

People seem to think that blacks are unaware that black-on-black crime accounts for far more deaths than cop shootings. Black activism is about addressing the power imbalance between the two populations in this country.

and why is everyone ignoring the hilarious booing at Bloomberg's speech by the SJW's?

Should have Steven Crowder speak at more graduations.

He's saying they're welcome to participate but they don't get to steer because they put the car in a ditch and don't know how to drive. I know you hate the president but you could at least read what you respond to.
