For a mere $560 million dollars.... Possibly.

edit: Seriously though, it seems like they stole general cyber tools allegedly developed by the NSA and are now selling them.

When I was younger there was the urban legend that the Vatican had the world's largest collection of pornography. Now I suspect the NSA might. Might be worth a hack to check it out.:D

When I picture the NSA I think of IT nerds who spend all day spying on chicks they had a crush on in high school.

edit: I give up on trying to edit twitter links :( You'll have to absorb the behemoth as is. Gl hf.

Update, it seems to be very legit.

Specualted that it's a move to block retaliation against the DNC hack.

Tim Cook @ Apple is probably in tears laughing after getting blasted for not making a backdoor to get into phones.

As I udnerstand it, these are going public soon. They were already uploaded to github but they removed it. Seems like wikileaks grabbed what was given away for free and they will re-upload it.

These are no ordinary hacking tools but rather stuff that can cause massive damage to some pretty big stuff (remember stuxnet?)

The group that got hacked was called "The Equation Group" which in hacker circles are known to be the NSA and they where hacked by "The Shadow Brokers" - lol Mass Effect, lol and sigh /nerds.

26 bids so far on the auction but like the article says, the 1 mill bitcoin is probably a smokescreen since laundering that would be impossible.

    -----------------------------------------

If I were to guess what is going I would guess this: Someone hacks DNC (possibly Russia) and now they release this as a defence from retaliation saying: If you act up we can expose what you have been doing to everyone.

Big stuff going on behind the scenes (as usual) but clearly more visible which probably indicates it's coming to a head.

    /speculation off

It's already been proven they spy on ex's so I don't see why they wouldn't do this. Hell I work in IT and were constantly going into the machine of hot girls and seeing if they are dumb enough to leave anything stupid. It might sound creepy but honestly it's fun just digging through people's shit and finding out more about them especially if their hot.

Dan Carlin had a great Podcast about what people would think if the worlds top 1000 most influential people suddenly had all of their private information leaked online. Emails, search history, transitions, everything...

And what if, to spice things up, the hackers sprinkled in snippets of false information here and there. He basically equated it to the only thing which would ensure people's privacy because the NSA clearly has all of this info but the lawmakers don't care because it hasn't had any negative effect on them.

I'd love it if that happened to be completely honest .

At a million Bitcoin nobody that would be interested would be able to afford it. There is a good chance this never sees the light of day. This is a warning shot from some big players to some other big players not to fuck around.

Didn't Snowden teach you that? These guys are spying on the entire planet and most certainly all Americans. There is not a phone call, text, e-mail, or internet search you have made that has not been neatly documented and filed away. You can bet on it. Everything you do is being monitored by a Big Brother style surveillance state.

Nobody's paying 560 mil for it but the effort needed to obtain it all would definitely be worth it to certain parties. Sometimes when you fire a warning shot smart people can tell what kind of gun you're using and where it came from. They might decide they want one of those guns too.

I don't see it happening but the possibility of this hitting the wrong hands is frightening.

To clarify the auction. I don't think a single buyer needs to put in 1 mill BC.

If they recieve a total of 1 mill BC they will release the rest (40%) of the tools, probably the best stuff, to the public.

I'm guessing in case of 1 mill BC not being met, the highest bidder will get it. I think they mumbled something about bidders getting concolation prices and also that bidding is high risk / high reward... Pretty much a warning that you might get squat shit.
