Notorious Irish Whiskey forced to drop brand name

He's one of those son of a bitches that beats people to the punch to make a few bucks. Fucking Seamus. It sounds like he heard Conor was going to apply under that name, so he he did it first for the possible law suit. The guy applied for it like a months beforehand. Now he's probably asking for a payout that's ridiculous, just for the name. This is more of a "screw scavenging little rats" post more than a "don't fuck Conor over" post. I'm not worried about the latter.

It's called Copysquatting and is illegal - Conor can win this easy but international courts are slow to process this stuff and he doesn't wanna litigate for 20 years before he can put out his crappy whiskey.

Name one that isnt piss water please...
Are we talking just large companies? Or microbrews? Or both.... because you’ve obviously not had many American beers if you thinkk they all taste like piss water!!! Sure your low end run of the mill beers do, but we have incredibly great micro brewing in the states... if you ever get a chance head on over to North Carolina and try say that and leave with all your teeth in your mouth

He wouldn’t have a chance in hell of convincing a court that he had previous rights to a fucking generic word ‘notorious’ for the sam reason Sonnen sold ‘red panty day’ T-shirt’s with zero repercussions. There might be some very specific circumstances that would give him a chance in court, ie previous business relationship but Conor would be laughed out of court if there weren’t.

Also you made up the word copy squatting.

$25 a bottle Irish is piss made from the dregs of real distilleries and then bottled by a shitty production line of shining aluminum, not copper old timey stills.

You CANNOT produce a quality product without decades of lead time. You cannot do it on your own (you need time to let the whiskey mature) and you cannot buy it from actual whole scale distilleries - which are all owned by about three monopoly companies - and slap a label on it because the quality stuff has been sold a decade in advance.

Tequila, vodka and beer - you can start with a couple of years of lead in. Whiskey? That 15$ at the Bodega is made of the same shit as this.

Maybe he was brewing the whole thing for years now??

Penderyn, a Welsh distiller were producing decent stuff inside of ten years.

But the early stuff made from waste mash from a local brewer was Shite

Can’t argue with being able to make decent stuff if you build your own distillery and have access to grain and water - which is expensive as fuck - within ten years. Meanwhile fighting a knife fight with the monopolies.

Shite, you can produce pretty soon. Which is why you got this crap produced as well as Trump Vodka. I’d like to know if they actually bought this crap for bottling just this year because there was a drop in the Thai market for shite Irish booze because of currencies fluctuating.

But you ain’t making 20 year old blend ‘The Notory Mcg’ without well... 20 years of lead in. Twenty years of putting in money without a chance of getting it back before that.

By which time he will be a nobody.

Well cool for him. He wasn’t a celebrity before though?

I’ve had about five minutes thought about brand names and ten minutes search of CTM databases and why da fooq didn’t he go for something like:
Conor’s Notorious
Or
Red Panty Whiskey

And calling this shite: “Proper no. 12” is bollocks for the drunken crew who will think it might actually be a blend of minimum 12 year old matured whiskey.

This is walking a tight-rope on relevant EU law and might mean this shit will only appear in the US.

Those new whiskey companies have to start somewhere. If they don't sell anything then they wont exist..
