I am writing a document for a publication and was inspired by the story of Oisin ***an an Irish boxer I know personally who was working as a teacher in the US with no amateur boxing background becoming pro and fighting for a living just to survive..

It got me thinking what notable MMA / UFC roster fighters are out there who had little or no background in martial arts before going pro or those who started late in life?

Also looking for a little inspiration to get back into more seriously myself.

    Cheers!

EDIT His Last name is F-a-g-a-n. It blocks the first 3 letters for obvious reasons.

JDS had absolutely no kind of training before starting BJJ at 21.

Five years later he became the UFC HW Champion.

That's not to say that it would be possible for anyone, especially when you consider the fact that the HW division might be the shallowest in the UFC. But I think Cigano is a great example of what you can achieve

Randy was a wrestler yes,but damn his first fight was at like 33-34. As someone said, JDS began to train in his 20's

I find it more interesting that you're writing a document for a publication and you don't know how to write.

    Al Bundy.

He was a HS football hero however so A-level athleticism carries over.

Randy was the first name that popped into my head as well...

Guys like Lesnar, Nastula, & Romero might be good examples as well

He can barely fight but Batista was a bodybuilder and sort of a costume dancing clown until he was 40

Phil Baroni and Pudzianowski too. Kimo and Tank had very little training.
