It has happened in MMA? A fighter able to end the fight by KO/TKO but decide to keep the fight going just to hurt his opponent?

Anderson Silva vs Demian Maia, though I think that was more to spite the UFC then to personally punish Maia

Anderson Silva vs. Demian Maia.

Edit: Beat me to it. In boxing, Ali famously "carried" Floyd Patterson, who had a bad back, because Ali was pissed Patterson called him by his birth name, Cassius Clay.

Can't think of many other examples. Hmm...

Sergey Kovalev could have finished Pascal pretty quickly in their second fight, but it was clear he let him survive several more rounds to punish him for calling him a racist in the media. He admitted it afterwards.

I am sure it was not on purpose, but GSP did it to Koscheck nonetheless. It was cringeworthy, Kos is one tough nut to crack.

Good call. Yeah he did even admit it too. Kovalev is one cold mfer.

Ive often wondered this about GSP. We all know he went to dark places so maybe he has a bit of a sadistic side with his methodical dismantling of opponents post reacquiring the belt.

Yea GGG says he carried opponents to get work in and go to the later rounds, but boxing is kind of screwy because if you look too good, you cannot get high profile fights.

Renato Bablu Sobral vs David Heath.

Even though the fight ended with him purposefully holding the sub late.
And the stuff he said after the fight.

Julio Ceasar Chavez vs Greg Haugen

Jones vs. Shogun seemed like that until Shogun had to quit from the punishment.

Rousey claimed in her book that punishment was the reason the second fight with Tate went so long, but I don't think anyone is dumb enough to believe that.

Conor played around with Siver for a little bit before finishing it.

Most fighters who have ever killed/paralyzed a guy in the ring are deeply affected by it...to Kovalev it is just like water off a Duck's bacl

Frank Shamrock toyed with Baroni for quite a while before finishing him off.
