Since he swept everyone he faced with his half guard sweep i want to learn it! :P

YouTube - Minotauro Guard Pull here's the part when he did it to Sylvia.

What I really want to know is what is the difference between his technique and the rest of the fighters because this sweep seems to be very effective but nobody else does it.

Some instructionals would be cool if anybody knows any please tell.

nog's the man

seems like a very basic sort of stupid-simple tech, or more of a principal really: just grip the wrinkle at the posting knee (or in this case underhook the leg at the knee) and grip the wrist so the uke can't base.

in any case, this really drives home the fundamentals of sweeps/uke's base, good stuff

oh, or it's the electric chair sweep -- wow, that is useful, i find myself stuck in that position often - bravo's version uses an element of the xguard, posting up on the uke's armpit, very nice

Cool video, nice to have it broken down and in slow motion like that :icon_chee

You can't just grip behind the knee though. You really have to get it deep and get their knee up on your shoulder. YOu might be able to get away with grabbing the knee if the guy is al ot smaller than you. But if they are the same size or bigger they will just drop their hips on you an now your stuck. Getting that knee on your shoulder will make or break the sweep.

LOL electric chair. What a stupid bullshit fucking ugly promo name. Thats for sure a eddie bravo move.

Man the most important thing with out the kimono is, that you move fast and explosiv. Its kinda suprise. I am a fat guy, i use this alot. Sometimes you can even get the back of it.

electric chair.... LOL

One cool detail Nog tries that he doesn't get, but which makes this sweep work really well -- see in the beginning how he tries a "duck under," sitting up under the armpit (rather than pushing it with his hand, a la Bravo)? That "duck under" move is huge, it prevents the guy from crossfacing you. If you can get under AND sit up, you will block the crossface, and it is very hard for the guy to avoid the sweep at that point.

I just learned this a couple weeks ago, and it is gold as an intermediate step to the deep half guard sweep. Otherwise you often get stuck in a no man's land, where you have a grip on the leg but are getting a stiff crossface preventing you from going under. Pushing the armpit helps prevent that, but it is not nearly as effective as sitting up.

Also, when you sit up, there are several more sweeping options that you have. You can sweep them by continuing to sit up into them, or you can "crank" the foot like a toehold, rather than just underhooking the leg over.

Cool stuff.

If you duck under the arm but cannot sit up, aren't you basically giving them a reverse scarf pass position?

I could watch that again and again - Nogeura looked faster then I've seen him in years.

As nice as that was Sylvia's defense and balance was HERENDOUS!!! He didnt even try to defend it

Most guys wouuld step up their outside leg, post out their hand etc. Nog wouldve just reversed that as well but that sweep wouldnt look that simple in a BJJ tourney.

Nog is the PIMP!

This is very interesting, anyone got the gif to point it out? Yeah, I'm still working half guard now goin more indepth with Deep Half Guard.

Question...

If you keep your head down too much (duck under) arent you risking getting caught in the Darce? I am good at stayin on my side and scooting low towards the hips but I get caught in D'arce chokes a lot by this one purple belt.

So how do you avoid that?

The point of the "duck under" is getting your head up, not down. There's no way you can get darced/brabo'd from there.
Actually I don't call it a duck under, I call it the octopus guard, after Telles (he has a segment on this position in his instructional). At least I think it's the same thing.

But the brabo is probably the biggest danger whenever you're playing half guard bottom. Against someone who's good with it, you shouldn't try to force the sweeps. You'll often have to abort your sweep midway through to avoid getting choked or passed.

Gotcha I was picturing it differently. I see now...

Before trashing Tim's defense too much, I would keep in mind there are ALOT of big names that nog has swept with that very same sweep, and with names like Werdum and Emilianko on that list, maybe Timmay wasnt so terrible after all.
