No way Swanson loses to Poirier

It's definitely plausible. Swanson has been running his mouth a lot lately, buying into his own hype, thinking he's the fighter to dethrone Aldo (despite his loss to him in stunning and pantheon level fashion), as if he's going to run through anyone. Poirier could definitely surprise him, especially with his submission game.

Yeah, Swanson has been going on a tear, but it hasn't been against grade A competition. Roop, Pearson, and Oliveira are all great wins, but Aldo, KZ, Edgar, Lamas, Mendes, Hioki, Koch, Siver, and Nunes would probably all give Swanson hell. Aldo, Mendes, and Lamas already hold wins over him, and Nunes, Siver, Hioki, KZ, and Edgar would probably beat him as well. The Poirier fight will tell a lot about where he really stands in the division. Dustin is no joke. I think he gets the submission.

Swick was never a "Submission Specialist" nor was he ever a high level grappler. As you can see from evidence in their fight, Brown was actually the better grappler despite his 9 losses via sub.

People need to relax on Swanson. Just because he had a few nice KO's does not mean he's unbeatable. His record obviously shows otherwise.

But Poirier is a submission specialist?! He has submitted a white belt who stepped in on a short notice and submitted a blue-belt in Garza and a purple-belt in Brookins who both literally gave the choke to Poirier (Brookins has even admitted since the fight that he had lost that fight before he even stepped in the cage). But suddenly he's a submission specialist! Swanson is a BJJ black-belt and was winning Pan-Am titles and Grappler's Quests titles before Poirier had even had his first fight!

And I'm not saying Swanson isnt beatable, I've always been a fan of Poirier and he has huge potential. But for people to say that Poirier is the superior grappler and striker is just surprising to me.

All I know is that every time I bet for/against Swason, it goes the other way. I refuse to bet a fight of his ever again.

To be fair, Swick disappeared for a few years because of a debilitating illness and came back as Skeletor. He was able to get past DeMarcus but a durable guy like Brown was able to bully him easily.

That was not the Mike Swick that was rolling out Swickatines years ago. Not a great comparison for this fight.

Cub got subbed about a year ago by Lamas and Dustin wins most of his fights - his last 3 wins specifically - by submission. It's an interesting thing to note. Not that Cub is some free tap or anything absurd, its just something that will absolutely come up in a fight with Poirier. The guy has slick submissions.

I give Cub the edge, here is a guy who seems to have hit his stride. Dustin is most definitely a dangerous fight for him, and both guys finish fights.

No, I think it is a perfect example to illustrate my point! The points you mention about Swick only further support my argument that people just seem to look on wikipedia at their wins and losses and because somebody has lost a few times by sub and their opponent has a few sub wins then they must be the better grappler! It's kind of what people are doing here. THey aren't assessing the guys Poirier has been beating or how he beat them, or even how he looked during those fights.

For all the credentials Cub has on the ground, he was still submitted rather easily by Jens Pulver and Ricardo Lamas (neither are known for their submissions). Cub has the edge in power for sure, but Poirier shouldn't be looking to make it a striking match anyways. Poirier will look to take Cub down and get the sub.

What I am illustrating is people saying Poirer is a submission threat are not crazy yahoo's reading wikipedia (as was the case with people who thought Swick might be)

They are wildly different cases so you can't bunch everybody together - if you were 'crazy' enough to think Swick... then you are crazy for thinking Poirer...

No Sir.

I think Poirer has a pretty good chance at beating Swanson, Swanson has looked great as of late because he has been fighting strikers (except for Oliveira who never really threatened with any kind of take-down). I see Poirer turning this into a grappling match and winning by sub.

I would pay good money to see Swanson fight Aldo again.

IDK roops mouthpiece seemed to resist that punch quite well....

I cannot wait for this fight. Do not count Poirier out, the dude always comes to fight.

right now I want to say that Dustin wins, but I got a feeling I'll be going back and forth on this one until fight night.
