Sorry if this has been posted before (my computer has been out for the last week) but I just watched the UFC 158 presser and was wondering what's the deal with Nick's friendliness towards Georges? I thought he really disliked Georges but even if he didn't his trash talk has seemed to be a big part of his game and has paid dividends in the past. Again sorry if this has been posted before (feel free to direct me to the appropriate thread).

He talked because he wants what Georges has, and that's the belt. In no way does he actually dislike Georges as a person, but he doesn't enjoy his fighting style even though he said he's very good at it.

At the 137 post-fight presser, he said something about 'being the bad guy' to get what he wants, so he'll be a bad guy then. So no, he doesn't actually dislike Georges and he expressed that he would always talk shit back in Elite XC and Strikeforce because he wanted a fight with the champ in the UFC, now that he's in the position to do so, he has nothing to complain about and he's happy.

I'm sure he'll be up in Georges face at the weigh-ins and during the fight he will talk shit as he usually does. IMO it doesn't really matter, I'm just glad that Nick is gonna be back in the cage soon. Win/lose, it's going to be a great fight.

believe it or not, he's actually smart enough not to piss gsp off anymore.

He's too busy trying to get out of this mess he's gotten himself in.

Like someone pointed out, the closer he gets to fighting GSP, the less trash he talks and the further he runs.

Diaz will come to fight, but I think he is quickly realizing that there is no way he is going to be able to deal with GSP's wrestling. Watching his brother lose to Bendo was probably a reality check for Nick.

I agree with your post, sounds right on. You connected the dots really well. I am surprised when people ask these questions....because I have been raised to see people at "face value"....meaning, don't put your heart into what people say because people are full of BS, like car sales men. People are always selling, so lots of B.S. in this world. Thought most people knew this, but, seems like allot of people take it serious....like some people actually think WWF is real....and that chaels character was real....they are all selling a product for profit so they are full of B.S.

Oh yeah, and Diaz looked high in that conference....he never opens his mouth that long saying...No NO ...I don't hate him...huh...lol, that was such a stoned face.

1) Probably still shocked he is actually fighting for the title (Diaz always seem to think the worst happens to him)

2) Diaz strongly advocated this fight since...the Hughes era according to himself. Perhaps he is soaking it all in.

He's shellshocked that GSP wants this fight and think's it's an ez payday

Diaz will come to fight, but I think he is quickly realizing that there is no way he is going to be able to deal with GSP's wrestling. Watching his brother lose to Bendo was probably a reality check for the Diaz bros., in that they need to start working on their TD defense.

Nick's TDD isn't nearly as bad as people think it is. Nick stuffed 17 of 19 TD attempts from Sean Sherk. 5 out of 8 TD attempts from Riggs, 6 of 11 from Diego. Sometimes it looks like Nick barely tries to stuff TD's because he's so confident on his back, and he gave Diego a hell of a fight from his back and even dropped the guy in the 3rd round with a punch.

When BJ took him down, Nick tried to reverse it so he can get top position but BJ did a good job of not letting that happen.

Nick knew that Sherk was going to shoot for TD's nonstop, and Nick stuffed all but 2, and those 2 TD's Sherk landed, he got swept both times pretty easily and he outstruck him, and also outstruck Riggs.

His TDD isn't anything like GSP's of course, but it's not AS bad as people think. Nick is just comfortable off of his back, I think Nick's TDD will look a little more improved against GSP because he knows GSP is going to want to take him down sooner or later. The stance he had against Sherk worked well to stop the TD's, who knows. We'll see what happens, it's going to be a hell of a fight though. Nick has always made it a hard fight for his opponent of his back and even forced fights back to the feet sometimes because of his guard.

Im sure he will be talking during the fight.

The day that Nick runs from a fight...........your gonna be waiting a life time for that. The only thing Nick has too worry about is the judges in this one.

He hasnt talked trash cause he hasnt been pushed yet

Good breakdown of Diaz's fights with wrestlers, and as you said, he's got better TD defense than most give him credit for. The issue though is Diaz lost all 3 of the fights you mentioned above (Sherk, Sanchez, Riggs). They were all close fights, but the fact is he lost due to not being able to stay off his back in key points of the fight.

I'm rooting for Diaz to win this, but let's be real, he hasn't faced a true wrestler since 2006. That means he hasn't been training for that style of matchup for a long time. I hope Diaz uses his BJJ from the bottom or finds success with sweeps, but the likelihood of him pulling that off against GSP is very slim.

Well he is turning over a new leaf but i bet during the fight he is guming with gsp

What was the reason for their fight being cancelled the first time? I remember now. Diaz RAN AWAY.

TBH, I don't really recall any fight where Diaz talked a lot of smack pre-fight. Maybe KJ Noons, and possibly a little bit for Daley. But typically he saves the trash talk for the cage, literally and figuratively.

Guess who Dana is trying to get a hold of? I'll give you a hint. It's not GSP.

He's probably realizing that he's going to lose and his only (very slim) chance of winning is with a sub

Diaz talked a bunch of crap about Diego Sanchez pre-fight. He kept claiming Sanchez was undeserving of fighting him and that Sanchez's success was only due to TUF. Diaz had to eat his words come fight night. I never really heard him talk that much crap since except for Noons.
