Watched it last night. Meh. On par with Spectre.

The villain was terrible, as I predicted.

I wonder: have these last couple movies made anyone appreciate Quantum of Solace more? I always thought it got undeserved hate. Sure, the editing is not great, neither is the acting probably, but at least the plot is somewhat coherent. And it has some nice setpieces.

Is it good or woke? serious question

I didn't find it woke at all. The black female agent who takes on the 007 designation after Bond's retirement is barely a factor, which I found quite shocking, to be honest. I fully expected her to be featured front and center and have a dozen of "girl power" moments.

There's also a throwaway line that implies Q is gay, but that's not surprising at all for this particular iteration of the character, nor is it in any way used to make a point or anything.

I don't think I have ever seen a James Bond movie except for A View To A Kill when it came out. However, if they do the right thing and make Bond a minority going forward, I will give it a look

I just re-watched Quantum. Better than I remembered. Watching it directly after Casino Royale helped with the continuity. The set up with the "why don't we know anything about Mr. White's organization" was good. Mathis' death was handled really well. The comparison of the woman drowned in oil vs. the exact same set up in Goldfinger was clever.

I found the 3rd act to be weak but the biggest issues - for me - were how poorly edited some of the fights scenes were (including the aircraft chase scene). Sometimes I could not tell what was going on. (and I say the editing is the problem but, of course, the editing team can only work with what was shot).

Plus Olga (who looked absolutely magnificent) just randomly showed up multiple times at key points in the plot and I was seldom sure why she happened to be there.

still - for me - Quantum was better than I remembered and better than its general rep

I'm a huge Bond fan and love Craig as the character. This movie was a good entry, but almost ruined by softening Bond up and adding WOKE BULLSHIT. Remi was a very week Villain, I didnt' even hate him. That was my main issue. The plot was decent, although it had holes, especially at the end. We all know they were going to go full woke for the next 007, and they went so far overboard it didn't even work in the current movie. They tried to say "hey, we made 007 a black unattractive female ! we are so woke!"-- but then they gave all the best scenes to Ana De Armas, and Lashana basically just shot a gun all movie. lmao!!!! And sneaking in Q is gay was cringe. As far as I am concerned, Bond is a womanizing Male, so this will be my last Bond I watch until they get back to who he is. There are plenty of other female spy bullshit movies out, and even advertised another called the 355 with Skinny models playing kick ass spys: Penelope Cruz, Diane Kruger, Lupita N'Yongo, and Fan Bingbing. Yes they got a white, a latina, a black, and an Asian.....none could even block a punch without breaking an arm. Cringe.

Liked everything you said.

I guess non-white females aren't good enough to be the flagship of their own franchises because the world isn't woke enough yet. They have to insert them into traditional roles, then offer up mediocre writing because virtue signaling (we have a strong black female in the forefront, look how socially empowering we are) is enough these days.

Honestly, anyone race or gender can be the lead for a compelling story. It's in the writing, not the superficial bullshit. It's why this movie sags in comparison to other quality Bond films. They sacrificed quality for some attempt to dial up social justice (even if people claim it was muted It's still there).

Give the black woman her own franchise that tells us a good story and we'll watch. They can do it. They don't need another story's tradition as water wings or training wheels.

Solid installment in the Bond universe. Wasn't the best Craig Bond movie, but it wasn't Quantum of Solace or Spectre either. I'd put it directly in the middle of those bottom 2 and the top 2, Casino Royale and Skyfall.

7.5-8/10 for me.

LMAO at people cryin woke bullshit. 007 is a title, not a person. If they tried to say she's Jamella Bond, that'd be one thing. But it's someone filling a position just like any other job. You don't retire a title like it's a jersey in a sport. The film was fine. No one outshined Craig. Relax.

Matter of fact, let's rewind the clocks back to 2005ish when they announced Daniel Craig as James Bond. A lot of you same mfers were crying because he was blonde-haired and blue-eyed. Literally whined about this man being Bond because he didn't look like the Bonds of the past. Imagine crying over something like that!

you are absolutely correct that Craig was not exactly a smash hit when he was announced. "he is only 5'10"!" was the other refrain at the time.

I expect more of the same with whomever is picked this time. For me, it is just a fun guessing game. Craig has been great. It is definitely time for a new Bond. looking forward to it.

I re-watched Goldfinger recently. Goldfinger's all woman pilot crew would have some people so worked up. Woman pilots! What are the producers trying to force on us!!

It’s an issue because she didn’t outshine anyone. They picked someone just because they were female and black. Did you see how Ana lit the screen up? Lashana was a bad pick because they just choose based on race and gender to be woke. She isn’t even attractive. We all knew they were doing it to be woke, but they made a poor choice. Just like Star Wars did with Korean chubby Rose....eventually the quality will suffer and people will just stop watching. You are right, it isn’t Bond, but it also isn’t compelling. No one is going to see a spy movie with her....They would have with Superman, or Idris Elba.

And if they made a white chick the Black Panther, you'd get similar outrage. It's what happens when filmmakers deviate from the existing image and identity of a franchise.

I saw it for the second time and liked it even less then the first one. The Cuba scene is the best in the entire movie, so different, so old-style bondish. I loved it and I love Ana De Armas. I was hoping to get what was the plan/moftivation of the villain this time but no such luck. It just doesn't make sense. Casting Lea Sedoux in Spectre was the move which killed the franchise. There was no going back from this:

from England but I've never watched any of the bond movies
i feel they will overhyped garbage

IDK

but this along with harry potter will be the 2 things i will never watch

Watched it last night. I thought it was really entertaining.

My only critique is that the villain is not in the movie much and we don’t get that much backstory of him, but this movie was mostly about Bond. Daniel Craig carries this whole movie and he will be sorely missed and he really made the character of Bond his own.

The director did very well, the fight scenes packed a punch and there weren’t so many cuts as has become the norm with most action movies these days.

I gave it a 10/10. It was just entertaining! Could probably give it a 9, but I just really enjoyed this movie!

Agreed. Saw it tonight and would say 8/10. Same as you (better than Quantum/Spectre but worst than Royale and Skyfall).

this is an awesome post not because I completely agree with you (I thought it was a “good” 7.5 type of movie) but because it is so awesome when somebody really loves a movie. Glad you liked it !

tough rebuke to the dozen or so major brands who have employed her as a model

2:43 running time for a popcorn Bond film has been scaring me off. But I might give it a chance soon. Feel like I should bring change of clothes & a toothbrush.
