America's most popular female professional sport.

No other female sports have ever gotten me this excited, & I am someone that when the beautiful Carano was champion didn't ever think the sport could really take off.

It's hard to like Ronda sometimes, but she is absolutely the perfect person to legitimize the sport of WMMA. If her reign continues, the sport will grow more & more.

Honestly, in turn I think that will help with MMA as a whole as well. People will buy the cards to see Rousey & be treated with some good male fighters. It's going to build off that & continue to grow

As much as Rousey bugs me, what she is doing for MMA is something we as fans should really be excited about..

Shes making wmma waves with one move!!

I agree that she is really making women's MMA into something. This is why we do not want to see Cyborg anywhere around for a while. She destroyed Gina Carano's career and honestly I've no interest in seeing that happen again.

In theory, what you're saying makes perfect sense and I'd like to see WMMA grow.

However, reality can be much different.

I think a grand slam final with popular women can draw over 2 million viewers.

She is building the sport well but it will never be the most popular

America's most popular female professional sport.

Twitter fans:

Ronda: 482k
Serena Williams: over 4 million
Alex Morgan (soccer): 1.3 million

Women's world cup soccer matches have gotten as many 18 million viewers in the US, and we're wondering if the UFC can break 200k for tonights fight. MMA is not the most popular women's sport. Not even close.

Actually I was way off. Last year's us open women's final pulled a 4.9, which I think is like 15 million ppl.

I could be wrong though, ratings are confusing and I don't wanna research on my phone.

Anyway. Ronda is doing great but make no mistake. She is still light years from Serena Williams

Good answer. I doubt WMMA ever surpasses it.

This is only her 3rd UFC fight.. She's going to continue to garner media hype (even if she does lose to McMann). People will want to see her fight whether they love or hate her.

I hope Ronda turns the UFC into a women's sport organization and guys go to Alaska or Hawaii where they still use Pride rules.

The context of what TS said, was that Ronda was going to make it America's most popular women's sport, not that it necessarily was already.

Comparing PPV views to a free primetime network show isn't a fair comparison. For instance, the TUF 18 Finale which featured mostly women and was on the premium pay cable channel of FS1 pulled in 1.2 million viewers. The card was kind of a bust too. Could you imagine a FOX card with Ronda vs #1 Contender and some intriguing WMMA fights on it, including the new 115 lb division? That would pull a pretty good number in viewership.
