No-Go Zones in the UK

For this to be a fruitful and civil discussion (as always on Sherdog), what is the proper definition of a no-go-zone?

Straight from the off I can tell this threads got potential.

Somewhere that for a certain ethnic or religious group, thry cannot go without the threat of violence or harassment.

Open to other definitions but this would seem to cover it.

"No-go zone" is the fearmongering neo-definition of ethnic enclave, which is a thing that has been observed pretty much everywhere in the history of the entire world. Long island was once a "no-go zone".

Are you a no-go-zone-denier? You sound like a no-go-zone-denier.

I can't speak for London but in Sweden, for certain groups, there are indeed no-go-zones. Try wearing a kippah and take a stroll around the city of Malmoe if you dare. The same can be said of Paris, France.

Ambulance personnel don't dare entering certain suburbs without police escort but the same can be said for many of the people living in these areas, that are afraid of being outside when it's dark.

So it comes down to definition and it also varies depending on the time of the day.

So is "no-go-zone" just another way to say "dangerous neighborhood"? It sounds like that is what you guys are saying. Who made up that term?

Also, it seems to be used as definition of high crime, high poverty areas, which is another entirely new social phenomenon. Which I guess makes places like Orangeville (Baltimore) and North Yorkshire "no-go zones".
