I will be in Rio for only a few days and am looking for no-gi training recommendations. Ideally it should be:

    - Welcoming of drop-in gringos: I will only be training there 3-5 days.

    - No-gi/Luta Livre: I'll be trekking through Bolivia and peru after Brazil so I won't have a bulky gi with me.

It seems most gyms I've browsed online focus on gi training. Thanks guys.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

Do any of these places offer live-in accommodation? I've looked at the sites but don't understand Portuguese (I've emailed them)

there's a lot of nice Hostels around Botafogo (the neighbourhood of RFT and Rio Fighters) , its' like 10 min walking from any of the Hostels.. I live in Botafogo and i can recommend one to you...
Rio Soul Hostel, very well located, next to the Subway, 10 min walking from RFT or Rio Fighters.

a link for the Hostel site: http://www.riosoulhostel.com/#!home-ing/cljy

RFT it is then. They've been pretty responsive and speak good english over facebook.

I've emailed Equipe Clube De Luta Fight Team but they dont' respond and their website seems to be down, so I'm not even sure if they're still open for business.

Thanks for the suggestion on Soul Rio Hostel too. I'll check them out.

Does anyone know anything about these luta livre gyms? (I've researched them but Portuguese websites and non-contactable so far):

Academia Hugo Duarte Fitness - Rua Marques De Abrantes 207 Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro

Academia Budokan (Jaoa Ricardo) - Rua do Matoso, 248 Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro

Majority of gyms in Rio don't bother with websites. But they're def there. Sucks trying to set stuff up in advance but best way is to just go there upon arrival

both of them are legendary LV academies, you may wanna watch the Luta Livre mini doc, I think each academy had one episode.
