Ninth Circuit Denies Lawsuit Over Damage to Home in Police Raid

(Id. at ¶ 21.) To gain an initial assessment of the premises, Lieutenant Woodrum had an Armored Rescue Vehicle ("ARV") circle the Jessen property.

FCSO requested that CPD attach a ram to the MRAP vehicle and breach an exterior door to the home office.

FCSO then requested that CPD push down the rear backyard fence in order for the MRAP vehicle to gain access to the sliding-glass door at the rear of the house.

why the hell does a sheriffs office have these vehicles?

most decent size agencies will have a bearcat or similar style armored vehicle for their swat teams to use, or atleast have an MOU with a nearby agency to use theirs if needed. If swat is being deployed it’s usually because it’s a situation too dangerous for regular patrol officers/equipment to handle, ie a barricaded armed suspect threatening to shoot anyone who approaches. Shouldn’t expect cops to just walk into that with just some body armor to protect them.

I remember a thread on this from a year or two ago (happened in 2016). I’d be curious to know what, if anything, the county or insurance paid to repair the home or if it was repaired, can’t find that anywhere. Looks like the lawsuit lists things like emotional distress and all that trying to get 750K in damages.
