I have family members that have been in america for more than 40 years and still speak rudimentary english. Glad someone strives to learn other languages.

That's very common here in America, especially in Hispanic communities. That's different though because their whole community is people speaking only Spanish so it's not really that important to them. Most people with a significant other that speaks a different language learns that language off necessity. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to go to family gathering and have no clue what anyone is saying. I'm not positive but I'm sure Nina's Portuguese has come a long way.
