After watching Nate slowly break Conor Mcgregor down after Conor hammered him for a round and a half, it occurred to me that the Diaz brothers are MMA's version of Antonio Margarito. For those who are long time boxing fans, you'll recall that Margarito was the ultimate Pressure-endurance fighter of the early part of the last decade. his diminsions are very similar to the Diaz brothers (tall and slim) and his approach to fighting is almost identical. He would get used as a punching bag for the first few rounds but he would always move forward while eating shots like candy and letting off rapid punches that didn't look very hard. After about four rounds his opponents would start to fade under the barrage of his slapping-like punches and constant pressure and incredible endurance. most of his KOs came from guys just falling to their knees from exhaustion or a textbook 1-2. The best example of this is his first fight with Cotto. It looks eerily similar to Conor vs Nate.
heres a highlight of Margarito. it doesn't really do the comparison justice because you don't get to see Margarito go through his typical slow start and you don't getto see him eat punches yet keep moving forward with incredible endurance and pressure and the occasional 1-2 with half power.
