Someone who I haven't seen for a decade but used to play hockey with came out with the "Oilers in a sweep" pre series. I know he been wanting to say that for about 15 years.... Just going to let sleeping dogs lie

I said “see you Saturday” before game 1 and he goes “you wanna put some money on it?” I said whatever you wanna do I’m in.

Did he show up for game 1?

Just had a memory unlocked. I was out of town for UFC 200 in small town NZ. Local buddy of mine calls around and finds out that a local sport hall would have a watch party. We get in just as the main card is about the start. As the intro is playing a guy starts walking around with a notebook asking people if they want to bet. Gets around to me, and I guess he's trying to balance his book. Asks if I want to bet on Travis Browne.

"What's the odds?"
"Wot?"
"What do I get if I win?"
"Depends on how much you bet"
"Go on"
"If you bet $1, you get that and a $1. If you bet $5, you get that and $5"
"... so 1 to 1?"
"If you bet $1, you get that and a $1. If you bet $5, you get that and $5. So you wanna take Travis?"
"Nah bro. I'll take Cain though"
"Nah. Not taking anymore on him"

Imagine the worldwide tragedy and eternal media headlines when ultra soft Connor McCheapshot gets what he dishes out. There's a double standard here.

I'm all for rough hockey, but the media darlings of the NHL are protected and there is too much ref involvement and bias for pre 2000 hockey to exist fairly anymore. McCheepus and co. are going to continue dishing out face shots and sticks to the groin when they're about to lose the game with no repercussion. Had any Panthers player pulled what Edmonton did at the end of game two with a stick to the groin on McDavid, that player would have been suspended.

Oof. Even odds on Cain lmao. Free money. I haven’t seen him since the Friday before game 1 since we work in different areas usually but I’m looking forward to running into him asap lol

Agreed. I’m all for some violent hockey but cheap shots knowing you’re going to be saved is not my idea of tough hockey
