I enjoyed NHB7's threads but I noticed something that struck me as really odd. The majority of posters think that Don Frye and Dan Severn are legends but Jens Pulver isn't, this doesn't make any sense to me as Jens Pulver has more accomplishments than they do in MMA as he was the LW champion and defended his belt twice and never lost his belt.

If Jens Pulver had a stache like Don or Dan would more people consider him a legend? What's the deal?

Most experts don't consider anyone below WW to be a legend

What exactly is a legend in MMA anyway?

I believe frye is a legend, just for the crazy pride fights
and i fell in love with Dan Severn the first time I saw him on shitty VHS lol
His mustache is not of this world.

Well, based on my calculations so far, I would say that Sherdog considers Dan Severn a bronze Medalist legend (between 70% - 79% of voters selected him as legendary). And I consider Sherdog to not consider Frye particularly legendary (less than 70% of the vote).

But yes I was surprised to see Jens Pulver so low as well. He was the first big name at a lightweight class, and one of the early fighters to make striking once again a dominant strategy.

Frye is not a legend. In fact none of those guys will be remembered much. They are top 50 all time and in a sport that's only 20 years old that isn't exactly legend territory.

Pulver and Miletich are legends
Severn and Frye as well
Sakurai and Rumina Sato too

If u don't think frye is a legend

1) re watch the Takeyama fight
2) climb to the top of a ten story building
3) jump off

Why not Frye?
One of the first guys to combine boxing and wrestling well

This.

All three are definite legends. Pulver was the first great LW in American MMA. And is still one of the greatest LWs of all time.

I don't consider Pulver to have had a legendary career

He was definitely a pioneer of the sport and deserves so much respect for what he did accomplish, but I can't consider him a legend. He fell short of that status, imo.

lol at people not considering Ruas a legend.

Pulver no. Didn't the UFC close out the LW division back when he still held the belt?

Other guys, yes. Their battles were significant in the dark ages. They helped carry the sport.

What about Don and Dan though? Are they Legends and if so why are they and Jens isn't.

I just feel like if someone thinks that Don and Dan were legends then those same people should think Jens is a legend as well but that doesn't seem to be the case and i'm not sure why. Is it cause he's not big or doesn't have a mustache, those seem to be the things Don and Dan have that Jens doesn't.
