Are the Deflate Gate penalties harsh enough?

The NFL announced Monday that Tom Brady has been suspended without pay for four games for violating the NFL policy on the integrity of the game. This news comes less than a week after independent investigator Ted Wells found that it was "more probable than not" that Brady was "at least generally aware of the inappropriate activities" regarding the deflation of Patriots game balls used in the AFC Championship Game against the Colts.

The team will also be fined $1 million and will forfeit a 2016 first rounder and 2017 fourth-round selection in the NFL Draft.

NFL's side, its statement and Troy Vincent's letter to Tom Brady:

From Troy Vincent’s letter to Tom Brady:

“With respect to your particular involvement, the report established that there is substantial and credible evidence to conclude you were at least generally aware of the actions of the Patriots’ employees involved in the deflation of the footballs and that it was unlikely that their actions were done without your knowledge. Moreover, the report documents your failure to cooperate fully and candidly with the investigation, including by refusing to produce any relevant electronic evidence (emails, texts, etc.), despite being offered extraordinary safeguards by the investigators to protect unrelated personal information, and by providing testimony that the report concludes was not plausible and contradicted by other evidence.

“Your actions as set forth in the report clearly constitute conduct detrimental to the integrity of and public confidence in the game of professional football. The integrity of the game is of paramount importance to everyone in our league, and requires unshakable commitment to fairness and compliance with the playing rules. Each player, no matter how accomplished and otherwise respected, has an obligation to comply with the rules and must be held accountable for his actions when those rules are violated and the public’s confidence in the game is called into question.”

This is definitely worth of its own thread.

Wow. What a joke. People don't even get that for PEDs and domestic violence.

Lying and failing to cooperate with the investigation should have caused the nfl to give a harsher punishment.

Just merge this shit into the NFL thread.

It's a decent penalty. Why only Brady tho?

I love Belichick and never minded Brady.

But both parties deserved even worse punishment. 8 games would have felt right.

why was it Brady's fault?

Texts between equipment personnel explicitly talked about Brady being a bitch and demanding they underinflated balls. They also implicitly mention exchange of goods: i.e Brady was bribing equipment personnel to break the rules.

Punishment seems light for repeat offenders who undermine whatever integrity the game has.

4 games was the minimum. That plus a first round pick is good enough for me

For people saying this is too harsh, you try flat out lying to your employer next time they are investigating shit and see how long you go before you get fired.

Tuck Rule
5 Yard Rule
Spy Gate
Deflate Gate

Pats keep breaking the rules and the league continues to let them get away with it, 2.5 years before they break another rule?

I spelled fair wrong in the poll. How can you edit it?
