With the Khabib-Tony fight taking place (hopefully) in April and Conor wanting to returng as soon as possible ,without having to wait the whole summer, who would you prefer Conor to face in the meantime? I say fight Jorge Masvidal and call it a day at WW. I don't like his chances vs Usman at all, he would be heavily outgrappled and I feel his striking (although superior) would not be enough to hurt a cautious and solid chinned Usman.
Yeah the Usman fight would be a waste. It would be like making the Khabib rematch again. Conor would just get mauled. Masvidal would be fun. I'd be fine with Diaz again. Rubber match.
If he really wants to box Floyd again or Manny, beating Masvidal is the best way to re-establish himself. All Saturday night really told us was that he wasn’t completely ruined by the coke and whiskey.
Usman can't box on the back foot and gets tagged by volume-punching southpaws against whom he can't shoot if doesn't presses them. He'd be looking for reactive takedowns and pray to not get KOed in the process. On the other hand, Jorge can scrap, roll and kick; he'd have better chance.
Conor has a chance for a win against Jorge. He has basically none against a bigger, stronger version of Khabib in Usman.
Best matchup is Masvidal by far! Usman would just wrestle him to death and Diaz just got destroyed by Masvidal. Diaz needs another big win to fight Conor again. Maybe against Justin Gaethje!
I like the Masvidal fight. That would be fun for the fans. Really good scrap. If it ends early Conor probably takes it. If it goes past the 2nd I'll go with Masvidal. Conor is a strong starter and he's tough when he's fresh. Masvidal actually has a gas tank on top of being very well rounded and an awesome striker himself. Usman...if Usman stands too long he's fucked, but if he wrestles he should win easy. Usman might think he's a high level striker after the Colby fight and try to strike with Conor. I don't like Conor but I like Usman even less. Please let him stand and strike if they actually fight.
The night was incomplete for me. First, Conor had to absolutely wash Donald to prove that he was back to form and second, he was supposed to call out Masvidal ... I was equally disappointed in that as I was happy to see that he’s really back.
Masvidal isn't much of a step up from Cowboy. Usman is the fight to make. Conor doesn't desrve a WW shot so it's just the same as his LW shot but Usman isn't Eddie. If Conor couldn't get anywhere near beating Khabib he has even less chance against Usman so it's the perfect fight for him.
Let me see if I can change your mind (from your Av) 1. Everyone knows Cerrone is a notoriously (Conor pun intended) slow starter 2. That early thigh to jaw connection when he ducked Conor's initial haymaker looked like it rocked him a little 3. That shoulder strike to his nose looked like it broke it. 4. If it was a fix, they wouldn't have made it so obvious and Conor wouldn't have come out swinging for a 6 second KO 5. Cowboy's chin has deteriorated a bit 6. If it was a fix, I think Cerrone would've just laid flat after that head kick. That kick landed hard right on the temple. If I'm throwing a fight, I'm not taking 12 more unanswered punches on the ground while trying to cover up. 7. The UFC wouldn't waste their brand and how far they've come for a scandal of this proportion. Especially in a fight everyone knew Conor had a massive advantage in considering Cowboy's slow starts and Conor's renewed energy and fast starts. It was a fix in a sense that it was the perfect style of opponent for Conor to look good against. That's about it.
We'll see what happens between Khabib/Tony. I think Dana is just carnival barking with the Khabib shit to get the hype going early. I still think the timeline works better for Masvidal.
If it wasn't a "dive" Cerrone was paid to not take that fight to the Ground He ducked the First punch of the fight 100/100 would have taken the easy double leg here.....
