I started training about 3 weeks ago. and i was talking with the guys who run the gym and i mentioned that i wanted to put on a little bit of weight. so i tried to ask for a good lifting idea, as to when to lift cause we train 5 days a week. and what were the best ideas. and ive searched the site a bit and i couldnt really get a good idea of when to train. but back to asking them, i asked them and they said well you should just cut weight and drop down. and i was like that doesnt answer me at all, they say liftings not good... anyone wanna help me out?

Well, those guys are dumb. Plain and simple. Even IF you were just going to cut weight and go down a weight class, you should still be lifting weights to minimize muscle loss while you drop. The idea that weights make you bulky and slow is an age old myth. The right kind of lifting will optimize your body composition and increase your explosive power.

Just because you're training 5 days a week doesn't mean you can't lift. Do it the same day, either before or after your other training with plenty of rest (5+ hours) between. As a beginner you'll be fine doing it after, once you get serious you'll want to do it before.

Check out the FAQ.

If you end up doing a lifting program, do it sometime before your training, because then you will end up using more technique and less brute force in your training.

oh, and read the faq.

lifting is not good?

thats like saying cows are not food.

I'm glad you decided not to take their advice. They probably left their brain cells at home today, all 3 of them.
