Ive not seen this one posted (If it has been blame the shitty search function), but ive also not seen it any of the main mma media either so a bit confused...

There is also a stipulation that all fighters, beginning the week of UFC 200, must be within 8 percent of their target weight when they check in for fight week, which generally occurs on a Tuesday before a Saturday fight.

A fighter who doesn’t fall within that range is subject to daily monitoring of weight and vitals throughout the week and will be required to attend weight management counseling before his or her next fight.

“The only hard and fast rule in there, and I think it’s probably the most important thing in terms of the guidelines, is that 8 percent number,” said Jeff Novitzky, the UFC vice president of athlete health and performance. “If they’re not, it’s not in the rules the fight won’t happen, but we sure are going to pay very close attention to them, including taking daily weight, daily vitals, and as it progresses, if they show signs of being dehydrated, they will be pulled from the fight.”

So purely guidelines at the moment, if they arent within 8% at start of fight week then they will be "monitored"

(ones that are very heavy start of fight week could also point to those that might go the IV route post cut)

8% equals...

WSW - 115 = 124.2 ( 9.2 lbs)
FLY - 125 = 135 ( 10 lbs)
BW - 135 = 145.8 ( 10.8 lbs)
FW - 145 = 156.6 ( 11.6 lbs)
LW - 155 = 167.4 ( 12.4 lbs)
WW - 170 = 183.6 ( 13.6 lbs)
MW - 185 = 199.8 ( 14.8 lbs)
LHW - 205 = 221.4 ( 16.4 lbs)
HW - 265 = 286.2 ( 21.2 lbs)

Specifically for Hendricks and Gastelum.

these kinds of things get in the way of fights - i really doubt the ufc will pull a big fight over fighter safety, esp when the commission is letting it go

still though, i guess its not terrible? not sure how to react

"if they show signs of being dehydrated, they will be pulled from the fight."

its the week of the fight.... they will be cutting weight. how can usada expect fighters not to show any signs of being dehydrated in that period?

Also, does that seal the deal that we will never see conor defend 145???

Added a section for you because it doesn't seem to pop the way you put it.
WSW - 9.2 lbs
FLY - 10.0 lbs
BW - 10.8 lbs
FW - 11.6 lbs
LW - 12.4 lbs
WW - 13.6 lbs
MW - 14.8 lbs
LHW - 16.4 lbs
HW - 21.2 lbs

This is radically lower than a lot of guys are cutting. I see a lot of people getting "monitored" though currently this rule doesn't have any teeth.

Long overdue, these guys will sell their future by taking PEDs. Kill their kidneys with dehydration that a shaman nomad would be proud of. Someone has to save them from themselves and the UFC is protecting itself from future lawsuits at the same time. Even though it probably really will suck for a few events. In the long run its a win for everyone.

It specifically says they won't get pulled from the fight. Did you read the OP?

Weird week to start, these cards are filled maybe start the next week?
All that shit aside, this is obviously good. I'm glad that extreme weight cutting isn't getting the "well, that's the way it is" treatment.

Hallajullah!

Well I believe the way it's supposed to be done is you get your weight down as low as you can with stringent dieting/exercise in the weeks leading up to the fight THEN 3-4 days out from the fight you start cutting water weight.

I guess this is to stop people goofing off leading up to the fight and thinking "it's ok I'll just cut more water weight just before the fight" (aka the Hendricks mind frame)

The problem I see is that to hit that 8% the fighters can just drop water weight prior to this new "check-up" weigh in - it seems from the article above that they won't be checking vitals unless you don't fall within the 8% initially so that seems to be a fairly gaping loophole

Interesting.

Also related to your OP, the search function is fucking terrible now, agreed.

I guess they will be testing hydration levels on arrival as well... otherwise it wouldnt make sense, as you pointed out the loophole

To me it seems just some paper pushing BS that will cover there asses in cases some tragedy happens.

You really think they will fallow fighters around in there fight week and put them on the scale or offer them orange slices if they seem to out of it.

Just smoke and mirrors so the general public / media thinks "they care, they took measures, so regulated".. let's be real here.

Seems like this will really impact the lighter weight classes. The biggest weight cutters are in the lighter classes, 20 lbs at 205 for example will cover most of the division already.

haha I can imagine rondas reaction to being told she has to go to "weight management counseling", that wouldn't go over well.

i know this is a game where we both are condescending to the other person about how the other person cant read - did you read? if they show signs of dehydration they will be pulled from the fight - so like conor mcgregor before his fights will be pulled every time at FW now, its big trouble for the UFC as he is a star and makes a lot of money, but if he shows signs of dehydration, they will def pull him - sht
