new to jiu jitsu, need help

i was sparring with a purple belt, and less than 10 seconds after we started he mounted me and he got me in an mma style armbar and made me tap.

im sort of freaking out right now. should i find another gym??

You're going to get tapped. By purple belts. By blue belts. By white belts. You're going to get tapped by EVERYBODY when you first start. You're not going to know what the fuck is going on. You won't even know how or why you're getting tapped. Then, it'll feel like your getting worse, because you'll finally realize what you're doing wrong. Then, finally, you'll stop a few submissions... Or at least delay them a little.

You're going to get armbarred. You're going to get choked. You're going to get mounted. Accept that, learn and improve.

i want to fight in the ufc in 3 years. will they let me in if they found out i tapped? also im worried people in my neighborhood will find out and it will damage some of my credibility. what are the privacy laws in jiu jitsu gyms like? If i tap is there is permanent record in the system?

If you were wearing a gi, it has a special microchip that uploads to a public database of who has tapped who in training. Your dream of fighting in the UFC is doubtless over, and you will be subject to all manner of public shaming and ridicule.

If it was no-gi, you're in the clear though. Unless a blackbelt or a priest was present and is willing to sign an affidavit.

Study Marcelo Garcia for 6 months and keep training with that purple belt. Arm Drags, Guillotines, Butterfly guard, X-guard, single x-guard...etc

i talked to my coach today and asked if hed still let me train after i tapped in less than ten seconds. he just laughed at me. i dont understand any of this, its so embarassing. i think next time ill just fight through the submission and whatever happens happens. i have a pretty high pain tolerance anyway. i think my coach will be impressed and hopefully i can get the last tap stricken from my record

I trained with a guy once who tapped out in his first class. Even the Gracie Academy wouldn't give him a blue belt.
