Hello guyz im mike i just want to know what is Southpaw and the advantages and disadvantages it has....Question no. 2 is what isorthodox style?.. im kinda new to this..i hope someone will reply for me...THX

Southpaw/Orthodox refers to which hand your leading with.
Positioning yourself so that your right is your jab = southpaw
Positioning yourself so that your left is your jab = orthodox.

I like orthodox because I always thought my left hook was my best punch. For a 3 punch combo I could end with my hardest shot (left hook) jab, right cross, left hook.

But, being a southpaw in a sport with more orthodoxes has it's benefits.
Casamayor's a southpaw and when he fought orthodox boxer Michael Katsidis he exploited an opening that can present itself to a southpaw fighting an orthodox.... straight lefts right down the middle.

No problem.

I can lead with either hand (correction.... years back I could lead with either hand).
I liked leading with my left (orthodox) because I thought my left hook had more pop than my right.
With a left hook with pop I could throw a left jab and follow right back with a left hook.
Or, for a good 3 punch combo (with a smooth transition) I was able to follow up two power shots pretty quick. Left jab, right straight, left hook. The right straight and left hook being the power punches. The transition is smooth because it's right-left. Opposed to throwing the right, bringing it back (taking time) and throwing it again. I could have the left ready to follow as soon as I was pulling the left back. But watch out to not have them duck your right and quick counter you with their left hook (if they are ortho) and drop you.
Two kids from puerto rico did that to me back to back. I was too slow for them, and they were countering the frig out of me.

The difference is if there are more Orthodox fighters than it's going to be harder for them to match up with a southpaw because the punches come from the other side.

thanks for the tips i really like to start boxing for better condition and sharp mind..but sometimes i think of matches? like dreaming to be a champ and theirs this strong desire that i want to be the best even if i am not starting my boxing training...is this normal for me or im only illussioning?...thx again..

no one here knows how to box 'cept for Mschatz and KK.

So disregard all of this advice.
