    this is a special format that we are using ONLY for the "Physical Chess Challenges" which are sponsored by Physical Chess - an MMA/BJJ/Grappling clothing line.

    ______________________________________________________

    "PrimeTime Championship Format"

    * Each division is run through but stopped before the Finals Matches. After a brief intermission we begin the Championship matches.

    * Spectators will surround the mat. The surrounding lights will be dimmed and a spot light will shine at the center of the mat.

    * Each match will be run One-at-a-time. Each competitor will be announced by name on the loud speaker.

    * Competitors will meet in the middle of the mat, shake hands and commence grappling.

    * After the match the winner will be announced and will proceed to the press area to be interviewed by a film crew.

    * Each competitor will get the attention and notoriety they deserve. Sponsors will be watching.

    GET NOTICED

    ****ALSO****

    "1 price for 3 divisions"

    * Gi

    * NOGI

    * Absolute - We will have Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced Absolute (open weight) Divisions

    * this format is used in large wrestling tourneys aswell as in other olympic sports. it gives competitors a chance to get noticed aswell as makes the tourney more of a spectator friendly event...

    I could see how some people may not like all that attention, but otherwise its a pretty good idea.

    only the finals match will be "centerstage" so theoretically the 2 best guys in the div will be going at it. so they shouldn't have anything to worry about. But you are right...

    If you're talking about running a tournament that's open to public competition by having "each match run one at a time" that would take forever wouldn't it?

    yep, no one uses this format in grappling, we also use a wrestling tourney format for the prelims, where the entire tourney runs in rounds. it runs sooo fast.

    Getting introduced with the lights dimmed is a badass experience. I've had a few amateur kb matches, and it feels like your heart is going to explode out of your chest!

    And then when you're competing, the crowd seems dead silent. It's trippy, but it really does feel sort of peaceful in there.

    Being introduced with dimmed lights would not sway me into competing at a tournament

    I think its a great concept, great way to get free name recognition for local competitors.

    When, where and how much for this tourney. It sounds great!

    Also is this a one time deal, or is it going to be often. I am in NE ohio, and am looking to get into a tourney around the end of this/beginning of next year.
