    Thanks for the heads up.

Shawn Williams doesnt get as much press as John Danaher, but they both came up through the ranks at Renzo's together- even getting their black belts at the same time.

I was fortunate to have them both teach me in their beginner's class.

Shawn is an awesome teacher, and super great guy. I would encourage anyone in the Los Angeles area to check out one of his classes- you will love it!

So Shawn is probably a blackbelt but what rank is that guy who is interviewing him?

He looks very good when they are rolling.

Judging from his rashguard, a purple. But I don't know for sure, I have personally never heard of Budo Jake before.

One thing I though was particularly interesting was Shawn's view on baiting the opponent. I (and just a lowly blue belt opinion here) have thought that the whole physical chess analogy of BJJ has been taken too literally.
In chess there are only certain places you can go, certain moves you can make and you are limited to what can happen on that board.
Jiu Jitsu is a lot of action/reaction but you never can be certain what your opponent is going to do. When you get down to it it's a fight and anything can happen. I don't feel comfortable trying to bait guys either, cause if my plan fails, I just gave them an opening. Of course you should always plan ahead but IMO it should be more of a series of backup plans. If this happens and he does this then I do this, and if he counters with this I do this and so on. But actual "baiting" seems dangerous and low percentage to me.
