It's Japanese. There are kanji and katakana, as well as hiragana in the text. The katakana says shit like "osu!" (the judo cry meaning "push") and I saw something about five people in Japanese as well, but I was half reading.

On the 7th episode, it’s pretty damn good

Such an old bump. The CGI bothered me at first, but I got use to it. Overall it's ok. The last 2 seasons is dragged out way too long with too many flashbacks, which is annoying if you already watched the OG Baki series.
