We're getting a new adaptation of William Shakespeare's play Macbeth, which is an upcoming 2021 black and white film distributed by Apple TV+, where Macbeth is being played by Denzel Washington. The film is directed by Joel Coen of the Coen Brothers and the rest of the cast features Frances McDormand (Fargo and Mississippi Burning), Corey Hawkins (The Walking Dead and Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton), Brendan Gleeson (Alastor Moody in the Harry Potter films and Bill Hodges in Mr. Mercedes) and Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films and Harry Beltik in The Queen's Gambit)

Wow, Denzel Washington has played a lot of raceswapped characters over the years.

Gray Grantham from The Pelican Brief, who was white in the original 1992 John Grisham novel.

Don Pedro of Aragon in Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing

Dudley from The Preacher's Wife, a raceswap remake of MGM's 1947 film The Bishop's Wife, where the role was played by Cary Grant.

Lincoln Rhyme from The Bone Collector, who was white in the 1997 crime novel series.

John W. Creasy from Man on Fire, who was white in the original 1980 A. J. Quinnell thriller novel and its follow up novels and was even modeled after actor Robert Mitchum.

Bennett Marco from The Manchurian Candidate, who was white in the original 1962 novel and played by Frank Sinatra in the 1962 adaptation.

Walter Garber from The Taking of Pelham 123 who in the 1973 novel and 1974 film adaptation was a white character named Zack Garber (being renamed Walter is possibly a nod to actor Walter Matthau who played the character in the 1974 adaptation)

Robert McCall from The Equalizer and The Equalizer 2, who was not only white in the original 1985-1989 TV series but was also British being played by UK actor Edward Woodward.

Sam Chisholm from The Magnificent Seven, who was a raceswap incarnation of Chris Adams who was played by Yul Brynner in the original 1960 Western classic.

And now he's playing Macbeth in an upcoming black and white film though that one is very iffy considering Machbeth was a real life historical figure.

How am I supposed to believe Brendan Gleeson as an 11th Century Scottish guy?

Are they just out of ideas in Hollywood? They might want to hire some more writers so they don't have to just keep remaking old stuff with different casts.

Yeah, it makes sense. Was either him, Idris Elba, or Queen Latifah.

Denzel will be good in it, he’s good in everything. Not really interested in it though( even the best adaptation is gonna struggle to get my attention.

Joel without Ethan? What the hell.

visually, it looks really cool. No surprise from the Coen(s). Great source material...though I remember quite little about Macbeth. Denzel is consistently awesome. Gleeson is a boss. Mcdormand is terrific. Seems like it’s a probable win.

This seems like it would make for a great Dave Chappelle sketch.

Here's a scene from the movie, not just the trailer. Some of the best acting I've ever witnessed in a film.
