Hello fighting experts,
I'm a 21 year old male from The Netherlands. Recently I've moved to Amsterdam due to my study, and I've decided I wanted to give kickboxing a go.
I've been doing nothing for about a good 5 months and prior to that I've had been doing some weightlifting. I quit weightlifting because it's pretty boring to me. I would like to ask some questions to some experienced guys in this fighting (kickboxing primarily) scene. I weigh 205 pounds and I am 6 ft 5 1/2 tall.
I am planning on doing kickboxing three times a week with a good eating schedule. My training schedule would be the following:
Monday: kickboxing
Tuesday: -
Wednesday: kickboxing
Thursday: -
Friday: kickboxing
Saturday: -
Sunday: -
With (-) standing for nothing obviously. Now I'm a bit concerned that I will look skinny and have poor physical strength because of all the kickboxing (basically it's only cardio) I am going to do, with my height you look skinny pretty fast, as a matter of fact, i'm pretty skinny at this point.
So I am thinking about adding weightlifting twice a week, the following questions have gone through my mind:
1. What weight lifting routine should I be looking for (twice a week)?
2. Is it suggested for me to weight lift while doing kickboxing three times a week?
3. Should I even be bothering with weights at all?
4. Will lifting weights make me a better fighter (potentially) or maybe the opposite?
5. Do I just have to accept the fact kick boxers most likely will look pretty skinny and not the beach body kind of build?
6. Will I be losing my muscle mass I have?
These are the questions circling around in my head, my main goal is to be a good fighter and eventually compete.
I am looking for guys who have been in the same boat and can share there honest opinion and experience, and give me advise on what kind of training routine I should be looking for (weightlifting twice a week, to benefit me in kickboxing). It will be highly appreciated!
Fire away I guess! If anyone of you has any questions, feel free to ask them.
